From my experience:

A person who is given a Mac as a gift doesn’t necessarily possess the elitist liberal snobbery as the person who purchased their own Mac.

Thank you :) So, I can use my old mouse? What about my old keyboard? I think the mac ones are not very ergonomic. I have a Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard that I’m so much more used to.

“I can’t explain it...just how I feel.”
That’s the sort of answer I get from libs at work when I ask them to explain their politics!

"I personally think every household needs at least one mac and one pc."

And with the Apple-Intel processors, all you need to buy is one computer to have both systems at your fingertips.

I wonder if you see such passionate debate between DeWalt users vs Ryobi users.

Mac owners aren’t as snobby and arrogant as Linux operators are!

But one thing I’ve always wondered about, was why it is you never see any threads on FR from Mac users asking for technical help with their computers.

LOL. Ouch!

I use plenty of systems, including the three main types. My least favorite by far is my Ubuntu system. I don’t care much for many BSD systems. I’ve never had a problem with Windows. I don’t seek out these sorts of dicussions, but it seems all too often people are interested in proving what they use is superior. I generally respond to that.

How did you do that?

Market share has nothing to do with that.

Did you know all of the Mac help sites, including Mac’s own support department, are Microsoft-sponsored attack sites?

It’s true. I read it online.

I’ve encountered very few computer savvy computer users period.

When I start on rants about how terrible a language C++ is, or how these young punks cranking out software have no friggin’ clue how much their ignorance of cache line or data structure alignment of their data structures is costing in terms of CPU wait cycles, nearly every computer user’s eyes glaze over, then roll back in their heads.

And when I get started on the cult of C programming and how it imperils our national security.... people start to leave the room like I’ve just passed gas.

I’d reckon that 99% of all computer users are dumb as stumps and as useless as a bag full of doorknobs when it comes to actually changing anything about computing in general.

If they really wanted to be superior to the vast herd of unwashed masses, they’d be running OpenBSD and writing their own apps in Ada-95. I don’t see that happening too often.

Mac users just have their own type of ignorance. But a vast majority of the PeeCee users out there are just as ignorant, and just as smug about different aspects of their environment.

Maybe it’s a Chevy/Ford debate. I prefer Ford because it works better for me.

That’s no longer the case with OS X.
Under all the glitzy GUI, OS X presents a API for Unix programmers that is a very good parallel to BSD API’s.
Porting over a lot of the FSF/open-source stuff that runs on BSD is not difficult at all. The vast majority of the GNU tools are right there, right now.

Now you're scaring me. With this post and the one about all of "the 20-somethings getting turgid over an operating system" I expect something really scary.

Like "Hold ma beer and watch me crash the entire internet. Let's see, run script...ignore denial...assume administrator rights...yep, that should do it." CLICK.

LOL

I am NOT that computer savvy but I have had a G4 Powermac for 5 years now and use a Logitech keyboard and mouse and an old HPDeskjet 895Cse Printer. I have never installed anti-virus software and have had absolutely no problem.

I installed Office software for a Mac so it is just like Windows at work, except at work they are always having to reformat my compter and we have problems with viruses and have to constantly reboot. This may be because it is a network PC (Dell) and has firewall problems.

I had a Gateway computer for 5 years before this MAC and I had to constantly update virus protection and had so many problems until a MAC Guru came into my life. I call him maybe once a year to check out my machine. And yes this tech is definately very Liberal, LOL!!

There should be no problem.

He’s wrong. Mac’s can run a bunch of *nix applications and you can re-compile them for his system.

Heck, I’ve just read a report that Parallels for the Mac runs windows faster than a PC.

It’s not that Mac owners are snobs.
We just not very sympathetic to another long story of Vista problems and cries about Viruses in your little communities, little PCs growing up without a mother board and how we need a quota of PCs in every office. It’s been 200 years since we were freed from 5” floppies, get over it.

Class warfare is an ugly thing. You don’t hear us crying “They’re holding down the Mac man”.

Rise up, PC people, refuse to sit in the back of the wi-fi hot spots.

And, please, PC folks. NOT EVERYTHING IS A DRIVE!!!!!
