Sorry for that last post. That was a low blow. Bringing up the hockey puck mouse is not fair.

I am a little late to this party. I have a visceral hatred of all things MAC and Apple. It just happened over time as every MAC user had some form of chip on their shoulder, like they were constantly trying to defend their MAC purchase. In short they were all obnoxious a-holes about their MACS. I found that most of them don't really know anything about computers or really care for that matter.

For me I have a lot more fun with PC's running MS or Linux. I am a computer enthusiast. MACs just seem dumbed down for the masses (kind of like Obama). I mean - "chooser" how stupid does that sound?

I could go on and on...iPod vs. generic MP3 players, how they cornered the digital music market with such a lousy product is a mystery to me. Same with their sill iTunes service. Yep, MAC/Apple aggravates me in the same way democrats aggravate me. I can't explain it...just how I feel.

It’s been my observation that Mac owners (or for that matter, other Apple products) will never talk trash about their Mac, under any circumstances (Even when a Leopard upgrade destroyed all the files on their Mac). This is because it’s not about owning the best computer, it’s about being able to project an elitist image to the unwashed masses around them. This video helps support the notion that, IN GENERAL, Mac users are arrogant, image-conscious, snobs! Form over functionality.

You can do the same on a PC.

Or on Linux. What you can't do on either is run MacOSX—wich is as superior to Windows XP/Vista, as Windows XP is to Windows 3.1. MacOSX is elegant, powerful and sophisticated. Windows not so much.

Yup! It was a mess. However, Bill and Co. did go into Apple labs during the meeting with Jobs and got what code they did. Unfortunately, for Bill, they did not get it all, which is why Windows in an ever-developing product. BTW, Jobs actually took the idea of a personal computer to Hewlett and Packard when he worked at HP. HP scoffed at the idea, and thus Apple was formed.

I now own a Macbook Pro after having left the Mac community in 1995 or so. During the late 90’s, there was nothing about the Mac that really moved me to own one, much less program one professionally.

From about 1986 to 1995, I not only used Macs, I wrote software for them, either on the Mac or on cisco routers (I used to do AppleTalk in IOS). And gawd almighty, were some of the people within the Mac community difficult to suffer.

The most fun I had when going to Macworld, or the Developer’s Conference was outing myself as a conservative/libertarian, pro-RKBA, pro-gun, pro-property, etc. And then when challenged by the typical smug elitists, taking down their arguments with a crushing wave of facts, as politely as possible.

Mind you, these folks often *had* to ask me questions, as I was a font of information often not available elsewhere on AppleTalk and all things networking on the Mac.

BTW - I like OpenBSD. A really solid implementation of BSD.

The reason I came back to the Mac? IMO, OS X has reached a point of maturity where it suits me and Vista has reached a point where it does not. I refuse to put up with the DRM crap now festooned upon Vista, (I still run WinXP on PeeCee’s), and OS X has a BSD-like infrastructure under it, much better IMO than Linux as a Unix target, and the GUI on top of OS X is far superior to anything in the “free”/”open” software world.

Add in VMWare+WinXP and as far as I’m concerned, an Intel Mac is now the perfect machine for a retired s/w guy like moi, who wants this crap to “just work” because in my ripe old age, I really don’t give a rat’s rear end about all the arcane BS that gets all the young punks in their 20’s all turgid.

I’m tool old and too tired to get a stiffy over which OS I used. Just can’t muster enough passion to give a darn any more. I’ve got only so many years left on this rock and I’ve got to use my time more wisely.

I’ve used a Mac just once in a while when my PC was down. But I have seen that “beach ball of death”, and in my experience, once it appeared, that was it. I had to shut down and start up again.

From what I remember, it occurred at various times, but if I was ever on the computer at midnight, it would appear at that time for sure. Anyone know why - does Apple have some sort of programming to update or reinitialize at midnight or whatever?

How stupid.

The only way I WOULDN’T “be a snob” about my Mac is to act like a liberal, and believe “all computers are created equal,” and that a poorly made, POS PC is as good as a Mac, when it’s simply so patently inferior in design, quality, and ease of use that I can’t believe anyone uses one by choice.

Don’t compare Vista to Mac OS. Vista sucks. It is nothing like Mac OS, and if you have used a Mac you would know that Vista is nothing like Mac OS. Stop by your local Apple Store or Best Buy and play around with a Mac for a while. I think you will be surprised.

The beachball I’ve seen has been the same as the XP hourglass: sometimes a second or less, sometimes a few seconds.

I’ve never seen the beachball on a Mac as a continuous, extended thing. XP Hourglass neither.

LOL! I have my own version of your cult fashion. I love my black T-shirt with my denim skirt. And I wear flops all summer long. I hate socks! I love wearing hubby’s big sweater because it’s so comfy! I don’t wear the head covering because I’m not a TLM’er.

We have 5 Mac’s and one PC. There are some educational games that we use on the PC that won’t work on the Mac. That’s the only reason we have it. I can’t stand that thing! It takes up so much room. It looks like a dinosaur compared to the Mac.

My husband is in advertising so they need to use the Macs. He is one of the only conservatives in the place! We don’t consider ourselves snobs but I could be mistaken! ;0)

Vista does emulate OS X in some aspects, but IMO the major reasons why Vista sucks the chrome off a bumper hitch is the DRM crap shoved into the OS.

If Willy Gates had told the RIAA/MPAA to go shove it, Vista could have been a nice OS, doing only what Microsoft wanted and what Microsoft customers needed.

Now it is some bloated law enforcement tool masquerading as a computer OS.
