Sen. Barack Obama, perhaps giving America a preview of priorities he would pursue if elected president, is rejoicing over the Senate committee passage of a plan that could end up costing taxpayers billions of dollars in an attempt to reduce poverty in other nations.
The bill, called the Global Poverty Act, is the type of legislation, "We can and must make a priority," said Obama, a co-sponsor.
It would demand that the president develop "and implement" a policy to "cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015 through aid, trade, debt relief" and other programs.
When word about what appears to be a massive new spending program started getting out, the reaction was immediate.
"It's not our job to cut global poverty," said one commenter on a Yahoo news forum. "These people need to learn how to fish themselves. If we keep throwing them fish, the fish will rot."

Geez, maybe Obama will take care of himself—enough proposals like this and people will think “He certainly IS an inspiring speaker, but maybe he could get a talk show after I don’t vote for him.”
Change you can believe in ...
McCain/DeMint ‘08
Texas Republicans should be pondering which Dem they would most like to knock off by their vote in the upcoming Democrat primary. Voting GOP is a wasted vote, but voting for Obama would help drive a stake in the witch’s heart. If only one could be sure that the US voter isn’t stupid enough to actually elect him for President in Nov.
Fortunately, we still have a couple of weeks to think about it.
I say let Obama that Progressive Communist pay for this with his own money. My words to him are SHOVE OFF.
“If only one could be sure that the US voter isnt stupid enough to actually elect him for President in Nov.:
Obama will be tougher to beat than Hillary.
Root (work) for Hillary to get the nomination. Root and work for the republican nominee to beat her. Thats the best of all worlds. You get to see her defeated and you increase the odds of not having a left wing socialist in the White House.
Change is all you are going to have left once Obama is done with you.
So what can $845 billion buy?
Well, it can buy 100 desalinization plants on the continent with infrastructure. Enough to begin an industrialization of several countries and build their economies. This starts as a loan and not a handout, underwritten by major companies throughout the world and not the American people.
“Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.”
Can you imagine...
...an INTERNATIONAL Jesse Jag?
Cheers!
"Teach him how to surf the web and he won't bother you for WEEKS."
Cheers!
McCain/DeMint? I hope not. Wrote Jim yesterday and told him not to be tempted...after H or O he’s our ‘Reagon after Carter!’ If he teams with McCain, then he’ll miss my vote.$
Gee, as if we don’t have this kind of program in place. Its called: MASSIVE TRADE DEFICITS!!
For every billion they give away of our money, they get a 10% cut in pay.
McCain desperately needs a conservative anchor. DeMint is perfect.
"...attempt to induce poverty in the USA middle class."
There, that is more truthful.
.
Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.
Teach a man to fish and he’ll sit on a boat and drink beer all day...:-)
Let Obama emigrate to Africa and show these poor souls how the blacks found and created the America he so willingly wants to give away.
His heart and mind seem to be there and so should be his body.
Maybe through Hard work he can back up what his big mouth Promises, instead of stealing it from the taxpayers, of the working poor, of the United States.
Has he donated 1/2 of his salary to the poor of the world ?
We have enough people in this country on the Dole and enough countries, Sucking the U.S.A. Dry, we don’t need this Faux Robinhood to add to the theft.
