I don’t mind him, but my husband does. I will vote R. But that’s just me.

I believe the choice of candidates and the threat they impose on the Republic should any of them become President, warrants a serious look at another possibility.

MARTIAL LAW Temporary rule by military authorities, imposed on a civilian population especially in time of war or when civil authority has broken down.

My question is this: Has civil authority broken down? I can read between the lines, and yet fail to see how rule by military is going to fix the mess we're in without creating bigger messes. Maybe you could clarify here, Jo.

Do you mean applied martial law on a national level or something more local?

Actually, I do think civil authority has broken down.

There are whole blocks of streets in Los Angeles that
behave autonomously as Mexican citizens. They raise
chickens and pack multiple families into single rooms
and garages, completely ignoring our laws.

IMHO, the military are honorable, disciplined, literate,
educated, informed and conservative patriots. In their
hands, our country would at least have the hope of
security and the will to bring it back from the brink.

I also think they are, by and large, honorable, disciplined, literate, educated, informed, and patriotic--whether they are conservative or not. In a state of martial law, who gives the orders? Is there no longer a Commander-in-Chief? This is why I asked whether you were referring to a national state of martial law or something more local or regional. Apparently I have this deep and abiding fear of another Praetorian Guard.

Why not citizen militias instead?

The email insert you provided is a must-read.

I believe JFK won the Electoral vote which is what really counts. THere was no problem with low turnout, either-- 63.1% of registered voters turned out, versus 43.6% in 2006. source

As for one vote per district, the closest contest was in Illinois, where Kennedy won by some 9000 votes. It was the most hotly contested (think FL, or Ohio more recently), but the truth is that either way, Kennedy had the electoral vote wrapped up with 303 electoral votes to Nixon's 219.

The total popular vote difference was only about 112,000 votes, but those are not what elects the president, electoral votes do. Wikipedia, some information contested in the article

The popular vote spread can be thinned by overwhelming votes for a candidate in one jurisdiction (where they won) and overwhelming votes for their opponent in another (where their opponent won), without changing the electoral vote, so averaging the vote out over all districts can be misleading.

Jo, I don't have Gibbon's "Decline" in my recommended reading list for nothing. Look at the history of the Roman Empire from the Antonines to Alaric.

To be sure, we are under--by outward observation and definition--an invasion. An invasion facilitated by a "good neighbor" is nonetheless an invasion. A few things could be learned from the history of the Anglo-Saxons as well.

Of your seventeen grievances, and I agree with them all, I think the illegal invasion is probably the best line of argument for the military administering justice over the civil sphere.

When we start outsourcing the militias to illegal aliens, be afraid! ;)

I suggested civilian militias and asked the questions that I did because, at least hypothetically, the military, in a martial law situation, might be compelled to restrict certain constitutional rights, viz., the Second Amendment.

McCain has no chance for a Presidential victory. NONE, NADA.

Well, I have no intention of voting for McCain. I do think he can win, however, mainly because Obama is a cardboard cutout candidate and McCain has broad appeal among Democrats.

BTW, I live in Maryland too and it won’t matter who we vote for here in November. The Dem will win Md. even if he or she is in a coma.

Legal immigrants are seething over this invasion and
usurping of process. I’d be happy to stand beside
them armed and ready to defend “our” country.

What we lack is a voice. Someone to make the call
“to arms men”! It happens all the time in the movies.
Someone grunts and suddenly an army appears ready
to mark against the enemy.

BTW... that post about Social Security was from a
blogger called Rense. He’s not allowed on Free
Republic and I had trouble getting into the urls
to check those numbers.

Snopes did agree with the votes cast to allow illegals
to draw social security.

Legal immigrants are seething over this invasion and usurping of process.

As they should. Perhaps they have a sense of nationalism that native-borns either lack, had bred out of them, or have simply forgotten.

I'll be interested to see how Michael Savage's suit against CAIR turns out, since he's said that should he win, he will start an American nationalist party in November of this year. Let's hope for the best.

See above. John Wayne is dead; we'll take what we can get. This isn't a movie--well, maybe sci-fi.

Was "Rense" a poster banned from FR?

Thanks for all that information. After 2000, I know we all got a good, close-up look at the Electoral College.

I appreciate the work you put into your post - I’ll take a look at the link later on.

Regardless of the source, I think the data should be checked out. Even conspiracy kooks stumble upon facts every now and then.

Maybe McCain was not your choice, but time has come to rally around the Person who will represent your party.

That's just it...It's not my party. I don't HAVE a party. I have principles.

Why don’t you just declare yourself “Democrat” and make it official?

Why don't you just kiss my white ass and make your homosexuality official?

Now that we've traded insults: Come the general election, please feel free to vote for your fake-conservative candidate if you want. He's going to lose to Obama anyway. As for me, I only vote for conservative candidates. I would no more cast my vote for a socialist minorities-and-Muslims suckup (Obama) or a open-borders Chamber-Of-Commerce suckup (McCain) than I would for a Klansman or a Jihadi. The very idea of doing so is repugnant to me.

But if it means something to you to be a cheerleader for the Elephants and take part in this farcical political game, I won't piss on your pompoms. No matter which team is ahead when the final whistle blows in November, the nation (and the American family) loses. The only thing left for a conservative to do is to refuse to participate in the game.
