Mitt Romney Endorses John McCain
ABC News ^ | February 14, 2008 | George Stephanopoulos and John Berman

Posted on 02/14/2008 2:47:40 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

ABC News' George Stephanopoulos and John Berman Report: Former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., today endorsed his former Republican rival Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. The endorsement took place this afternoon at Romney for President headquarters in Boston.

Romney asked his delegates to throw their support to McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

"Even when the contest was close and our disagreements were debated, the caliber of the man was apparent," Romney said, standing with McCain for the announcement at his now-defunct campaign's headquarters in Boston. "As a party, we come together."

Accepting Romney's endorsement, McCain said despite a "hard campaign" now "we move forward together for the good of our party and the nation."

Once bitter rivals locked in an acrimonious Republican nomination fight, Romney abandoned his 2008 bid following a poor showing in the Super Tuesday contests this month. Romney had won the support of many in the conservative wing of the party, but failed to overtake McCain in either delegates or the number of state wins.

The former governor made his decision to endorse today in the interest of helping McCain gain the 1,191 delegates he needs to secure the party nomination and unite the party for the general election against the Democrats in November.

Romney campaign manager Beth Myers notified McCain campaign manager Rick Davis in a telephone call today of Romney's decision, and they immediately made arrangements for an announcement in Boston this afternoon since McCain was campaigning in Rhode Island today.

After McCain's townhall meeting near Providence this afternoon, the campaign is flying to Boston for the endorsement.

Romney and McCain will meet today before they both announce the formal endorsement at a press conference.

Don’t know if you noticed but the World Welfare Plan is breezing through Congress right now. Is Bush going to veto? Look at his history, and look at McCain’s. They’ll sign it just like Obama will. We’re screwed either way.

Now all Texas Republicans can vote for Obama and knock the Hildabeast (and the Clinton crime family) out of the race once and for all.

And if we vote for him and he WINS, and goes on to win the presidency, we will have helped.

Can't do it.

Oh come on. Who believed it in the first place? The only thing people believed in was that he looked good in a suit and had a chiseled jaw. While there is nothing wrong with any of those things when you are a Republican running claiming credit for pushing state run health care then one has to wonder where the Republican is in the Republican? Where’s the GOP?

I hope McCain makes it very clear to conservatives that he is not going to betray us on the illegal alien debate. That would sink any chances he has in the General. I can disagree with McCain on several other issues, but this issue is the deal maker or deal breaker.

your predictions of a slaughter-like Obama victory.

No slaughter. Just a simple victory requiring a public concession from McCain the day after the election. In fact, if conservatives would unite behind McCain, he could be competitive. But they won't and he won't.

Not only will they not vote for McCain, but they'll actively undermine his campaign and their influence will constrict corporate donations. McCain is an enemy of conservatism, has cultivated few friends in corporate America and has a long history of working to undermine both corporate and conservative influence in US politics.

McCain imo knows he's going to lose. All the endorsements are to make it look like a legit election. Hilary's supposed to win in November. The end of this exercise imo is a. Fairness Doctrine b. martial law. It may sound off the wall but all we have are lefties running and they don't like that we want a fence and that we do not want pathways to citizenship for illegal aliens, wherever they happen to originate from.

Shut us up and push us around. Welcome to the future.

“He is the Manchurian Candidate and is on a mission, and almost at the point of Mission Accomplished.”

Help take him down in this race in whatever way you can.

Hunter already endorsed Huck.

Call me after Huck concedes and endorses McCain.

My guess is that Hunter will soon follow.

Who believed it in the first place?

Enough to give him a better shot than the conservatives.

Where’s the GOP?

The creeps in control of the party are cheering the demise of conservatism, thinking that a centrist corporate party can loot what's left of the country.
