The only time religion should be germane to a political discussion of a candidate's fitness for office is in cases where the candidate's religion obliges him to break the law or to violate the rights of his fellow citizens.

Hard to say. I think he did it to stop Huckabee once and for all, since after McCain's last 2 wins the Huckster spouted more of his fuzzy math nonsense. So this is Romney saying,"Oh yeah? I don't think so". Personally I think McCain will pick somneone with established strong conservative credentials who is younger than him. Romney does best staying off of a potentially losing team to shoot for 2012. If Mccain wins the general, the Romney is in position for VP in 2012 if Mccains veep is a good presidential candidate, or Romney runs for pres again in 2012.

Funny, I heard the speech while driving and couldn’t catch it all. I thought he had endorsed McCain until I read on here otherwise.

Hardly a "backer" other than first it was Hunter, then Thompson and then Romney as the choices got thinner and thinner...

But I'm not sure what the expectation was after his withdrawal speech. To hold his delegates and bring some sort of doomed fight to the convention? That would have been disruptive as well as so counter productive that it's not even thinkable.

No, I will take him at his word about winning the war on terror and that electing either of the rats would ensure full blown surrender.

I don't like McCain just like I didn't like Nixon, Ford or Bush but they were so far better than the alternative I held my nose and voted for them just like I'll hold my nose and vote for McCain. He, like Nixon, Ford and Bush, has ideas that are anathema to me but he'll be better to our troops than any rat in the race.

That's life, full of imperfect choices and bad alternatives, but by God I'll never, ever allow our troops to have their legs cut out from underneath them by doing anything that helps a rat to command them.

I hope, and pray, that Romney feels the same way. In that case I feel pretty proud of him.

Huckabee feigned ignorance

EXACTLY! That is when I saw the true character, or lack of character, of Huckabee. He did it again when he made an attack add, said he wouldn't show it, then showed it to the ENEMEDIA! After that stunt, I knew there is NO WAY I would ever vote for him.

A candidate can change their position on issues and we have to decide if we will trust them or not. But when a person shows their true character during an election, it doesn't matter how many pledges they sign or how many times they change where they stand on an issue, their character is there for all to see.
I have no respect for Mr. Huckabee!
