Chesterfield County (Richmond MSA) came in 90.4% for McCain?

That has to be a mistake. If not, Huckabee has certainly lost.

“The only hitch? The state chairman had already declared John McCain the winner last night, with only a 242 vote lead. In a written statement last night, Esser said, “Congratulations to Sen. McCain for a hard-fought win, his second caucus victory in the 2008 presidential nomination process. And congratulations to Gov. Huckabee for his strong second-place finish.”

Huckabee campaign lawyer Lauren Huckabee (daughter-in-law of the candidate), who is skeptical of the fairness, asked for a lawyer to monitor the resluts.

The state GOP denied the request and hung up on Lauren Huckabee, according to the campaign. “

excerpt http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/02/10/politics/fromtheroad/entry3813882.shtml

BEFORE they finished counting, Esser declared McCain a winner. Washington State counted 87% of the votes in a couple of hours, but can’t count 13% of the votes in a couple of DAYS.

KEEP IN MIND, Huckabee was only about 200 votes behind.

What bothers me about the slow count, is that if it is Huckabee in Washington State, he would win THREE out of three, rather than TWO out of THREE, which would give him more momentum for tonight’s primaries. But it’s too late for that now. That’s why I’m suspicious.

I think McCain’s momentum, winning the primaries in the early states, is what helped him take off, even though in some of the early states, Dems or Independents could vote (and they tend to vote for McCain).

Now YOU have been educated. It’s about MOMENTUM with the Washington State debacle.

In Virginia, independents could vote in the GOP primary and if they had no ID, then a signed statement was accepted. McCain has done relatively well among Independents and cross over Democrats. I wish the GOP primaries were limited to only Republicans.

I’ve got this wild idea that could play out though it’s a long shot....

Let’s say the Hill & Bill Clinton political machine lies, steals and cheats to win the Democratic nomination which is very likely to occur. This event would absolutely enrage the Black Democratic constituency who helped propel Obama’s quest for Presidency. There would be hell to pay in the party. And let’s assume John McCain does win the Republican nomination as expected. McCain has big problems with the conservative base, and fails to energize his party. Under these circumstances ONLY would a third party candidate actually have a shot if his name was....Drum roll please..........

ALAN KEYES!!!!

Yes Alan Keyes could energize the conservative base in a heartbeat on a third party ticket. Black voters would then have their opportunity to avenge Hillary’s corrupt ascendency to Presidency at Obama’s expense. The Clinton’s made the race about race so they could exact their revenge.

I know this scenario is really “out there” but this is the year a third party candidate could actually succeed if major constintuencies in both parties were deeply offended by their established choices, namely Hillary and McCain. Alan Keyes would pull from both sides easily.

Oh well....I can at least dream can’t I....McCain will never excite me.

the chesterfield county figures have been messed up all night long on the state site -- they now have the dems fixed -- Obama by 2-1, not 1000-1. The gop is still messed, but CNN has mccain leading 10,000-9,000.

The statewide figures are now about the same on cnn and the state -- Mccain by about 8 points, as the sharpies predicted would happen when northern virginia came in, which is now happening.

The state site has the right figures, but is saying that most precincts are in in No Va, which isn't true if you look at the precinct by precinct figs.

I do understand that but if the vote simply coalesces around a more conservative candidate then McCains reversal of fortunes could be dramatic and telling. If McCain does win the priary we are sunk but at least we won't be blamed for his whitehouse performance. He doesn't stand a chance in my book. He will be Dole redone.
