With Virginia considered Hillary Clintons best chance in the Potomac Primary, Bill Clinton packed his schedule with three stops Monday in the Old Dominion, where he tried to convince voters that his wifes experience trumps Barack Obamas smoke and mirrors candidacy.
Clintons first stop of the day was at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, where he barely referred to Obama by name but alluded to him often as the lesser choice for the Democratic nomination, a candidate who has style but lacks Hillary Clintons substance.
You have to decide what this election is about, Clinton told a room of 600 students, his voice hoarse from making four campaign speeches a day earlier in the District and Maryland. You have to decide what makes the best president. You want someone with the right vision, the right plans and ability to get the job done. If thats the test, I dont think the question is close.
Outside of those traits, all the rest is smoke and mirrors, Clinton said in reference to his wifes more charismatic rival.
Clinton has previously tried to paint Obama as a political lightweight. When asked by TV host Charlie Rose whether Obama was more symbol than substance, he responded: I get tickled watching him. Hes got great skills.
Asked in New Hampshire about Obamas opposition to the war in Iraq, Clinton said: Give me a break. This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale Ive ever seen.
Although race might play a significant role in the primaries, Bill Clinton stayed away from the topic in Fredericksburg. He previously angered African-Americans by comparing Obamas campaign in South Carolina to those of Jesse Jackson, who ran as a black candidate and was never a serious contender.
On Monday, Clinton emphasized Hillary Clintons experience in the Senate and her days as first lady, asserting that she helped win peace in Ireland and achieve rights for women in Senegal
he tried to convince voters that his wifes experience trumps Barack Obamas smoke and mirrors candidacy.
Good one Bubba!....Your wifes experience IS “smoke and mirrors” also.
Boy that is scary. Your mother in law looks like Obama?
According to the Washington Post that is basically a huge over exxageration i.e. a lie. Clinton and Northern Ireland (Facts checks by the Washington Post
From the article:
The Facts
It is true that Hillary visited Northern Ireland more times than Bill. By my count, she went there six times between 1995 and 2000, while he went four times. But she accompanied her husband as first lady on those four occasions, so they were hardly "independent" visits. (She would sometimes fly in a day early to give a lecture.) She made two visits by herself to the province, in May 1999, when she was the keynote speaker to a women's conference, and a 12-hour trip in October 1997, when she gave a lecture at the University of Ulster.
These visits provide a useful insight into Clinton's first lady experience, and how helpful it will be to her if she makes it all the way back to the White House as president. I just spoke to Senator George Mitchell, the Clinton administration's leading Northern Ireland peace negotiator, who said that Hillary was "not involved directly" in the diplomatic negotiations that led to the landmark April 1998 Good Friday agreement on power-sharing. On the other hand, Mitchell credits Clinton with taking an intelligent interest in the issues and getting acquainted with many of the key players.
You need to read the history of the Clintons...or
why they need to stay out of the White House..
geez..these people only care about themselves..
power hungry and hate our own Military...besides
the strange deaths of many of their “friends.” We
had them once and they turned the nations capital
into a whorehouse...besides lying, stealing,etc. JK
Let’s look back to 1992 when GHW Bush critized Clinton over having no foreign experience and then Clinton saying he was going to focus on domestic issues and made much of his “legacy” in foreign actions.
And then when Gore was facing Bush, we were told how necessary foreign experience was for the job and how GW Bush was ill prepared for the office.
And then in 2004 we were told how Kerry served but Bush did not and may have gone AWOL WHILE Kerry was standing shoulder to shoulder with Clinton a known draft dodger.
Socialists lie. Always. It is just so much talk to get the votes. None of it means a hill of beans to the DNC.
Wow! Mrs. Clinton brought peace to Ireland, and women’s rights to Senegal. Thats got to be right up there with tearing down the Berlin Wall.
That Hillary Clinton has experience? Get real.
Bill’s just jealous that all those lefty women are fawning over Obama, as the new American Idol.
The more that Bill campaigns for Hillary, the more people (especially the younger voters) are reminded of the whirlwind of turmoil that surrounded the Clintons.
The Obama voters don’t even want hear about issues, they don’t care about issues because they are burned out on the negativity of the Democrat Party. They are convinced that a Hillary presidency would just bring more of the same.
Kids just want to have fun and Obama’s message is really, Don’t worry, be happy.
Why not drop all pretenses, Bubba, and just tell us that you and Hillary are running as a team, and that you are running for a 3rd term. Tell us that the 22nd amendment is a legal technicality, and that Clintonism is all about finding loopholes to do whatever it is you want to do.
Re Iraq Hillary is a big waffler. Barrack is consistently against our involvement and is still touting the populist line from 18 months ago when the local sunnis were still against us. We need a guy like McCain run against a guy like Obama. It’s perfect.
As far as the presidency goes, foreign policy comes first, then judges, then tazes. Bill and Hillary are more of the same lazy hazy BS. We need clarity. McCain and OBH are as far apart as you can be and quite frankly that’s the way it’s playing out on the street. No hazy lazy like Hillary and her tired waffle politics imply.
Iraq - Up or down. Simple.
I guess what he turned over was only a figleaf. (Yuck.)
And if she wasn't married to Bubba, we'd all be going..."HIllary, who?"
You think it really matters? Either with Obama or Clinton we are headed towards socialism hell. The same commies will be in power under either administration. Hillary gives the GOP the only chance to win, as Hillary negatives are huge. Obama is also much more capable of fooling people into thinking he is not a left-wing nutcase.
“asserting that she helped win peace in Ireland”
I hadn’t realized that Ireland was at war....
and neither did Bill, frankly. Which is only ONE of the many reasons his tenure was such a catastrophe, on so many levels.
I admit, I concur with Bill Clinton that, as of today (and with apologies to Gertrude Stein and the City of Oakland), “there is no there there” yet for Obama. He has the tools; he just hasn’t built anything yet other than a win in the Dem Senate primary in IL 2 years ago. (Having won the primary in that state, he was obviously going to win the general, particularly in that year.)
Yeah, Bill,
Obama is an empty suit that speaks really well but has no substance -
and your wife is an unlikeable hateful bitch.
Well said....To Bubba and Shillary, the law is there to be broken.
