I posted a squib on the National Review Web site about a robo call I received from John McCain. (Virginia's primary is Tuesday.) The call stressed that he would, if elected, be a down-the-line limited government conservative who would never raise taxes, would defend life, would enforce immigration laws and would win the war on terror. The candidate is trying, I said, to meet conservatives "more than halfway." The response of readers was, shall we say, emphatic.
One lady wrote that she would never vote for him as "He is the most disloyal, ill-tempered man and he brings out the worse in all of us. ..." Several readers made the point that after decades of suffering abuse at McCain's hands, conservatives are not going to fall into line for him now, no matter what blandishments he offers.
I know how they feel. The problem with McCain is not just that he strays. George Bush has strayed from conservatism, too. So has Fred Thompson. Certainly Mitt Romney has as well. But Sen. McCain has a knack for saying things in just the tones and accents that liberals prefer. In 2000, he condemned the late Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson as "agents of intolerance." In 2004, when Sen. John Kerry was getting his comeuppance from the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, vets who had known him during the war and couldn't remain silent as the Democratic nominee distorted his war record, McCain weighed in by calling the Swift Boaters "dishonorable and dishonest." When the Bush Administration was being vilified as a nest of Torquemadas for using waterboarding on three occasions, McCain came forward to condemn waterboarding as torture.

I’m a lifelong staunch conservative Republican. I’m definitely not a John McCain fan. I think he has done serious damage to the conservative/Republican cause.
However, I think it’s irresponsible for a conservative/Republican to not vote for President this year or to vote for the Democratic or a third party candidate.
Either Clinton or Obama will certainly try to get national health care implemented and also very likely withdraw from Iraq precipitously. If these things are done there is no way a Republican subsequently elected can unwind them. Say what you will about McCain but he will do neither of these things,
It is imperative that McCain be elected, however distasteful that may be.
And no concern as to what will happen to our troops and the economy if the dems win
“stand back or I’ll shoot myself!”
Well Thankfully You are in the Minority. If McCain Gets Elected Republicans will not interest in being Conservative. I mean why Liberals Change “when voters that arte weak like you are will just vote for them anyways ?
This is my point. You might call it foolish. We are not think just about 2008. Unlike you, we look into the 2010 Midterms and See the Massive Gains Democrats will Gain in Congress from a defeated and demoralized Conservative Base.
See this is what you are missing. 24 shorts months there is another election Election. And the Lst thing we want is for The Socialist Democrats to have Super Majorities in the Congress. This Is what we see over on the horizon.
Wake up brother. We need to be solid ok buddy !!!!
The most salient point about McCain is his apparent reluctance to be bought by arab oil money. Carter, Clinton(s), and nearly every other civil servant in DC and beyond have accepted the golden handcuffs of arab largesse. In the long run, McCain be the least tainted, the least manchurian candidate. He will not be afraid of the mullahs, the chicoms or the ruskies.
That the ticket GOP Establishment types scream insults at your party base. That is really going to get them to support your candidate!
I strongly suggest McCain supporters might want to quit singing the Cult of Personality song in praise of McCain. People here know his real record. Chanting slogans about how great McCain is isnt going to sell with Freepers. We know better. We know his political record.
It is also really stupid to be screaming insults at Conservatives or trying to play bogeyman politics by talking about Well they are worse. Conservatives vote for things, not just against them. Neither screaming insults, nor browbeating us, is going to convince any of us to vote for McCain
Being spun to belive in a McCain we know has never existed does not convince us to support him, it angers us because we know we are being lied to.
Right now McCain supporters best tactic is to simply talk about what the Democrat candidates are saying on any issue. Their only hope is that the Democrats manage to scare Conservatives more then McCain pisses them off.
I have no doubt most Conservatives will be scared into supporting McCain in Nov by the Democrats. Simply saying Well they are worse or McCain is really a great Conservative isnt going to work. We know better. We know McCains real record.
The Democrats themselves are your best chance of changing peoples minds about McCain. Telling us what a great guy he is isnt going to sell to Feepers. We know his real record on things like Iraq. His real record differs quite a bit from the air brushed one presented by his campaign
I personally think it is a waste of time. I think McCains record for the last 8 years has so poisoned the well that McCain supporters are wasting their time. However, if McCainiacs are going to keep spaming the board with McCain ads, they might at well at least TRY to be effective, rather then merely annoying.
Have you considered that God might have “had enough” from America after 35 years of legalized “choice” and 40 million dead?
“RUssia will not be afraid to nuke our coasts if Hillary or Obama are nominated or elected.”
Like they nuked us when Carter and Clinton were in office?
What are you looking in a mirror? You should talk.
I think alot of ppl will be very frightened of Obamanation.
His followers act like he is Elvis..., JKK and Martin Luther King all rolled up into one.
He would do so much damage to our country. What has he ever run? NOTHING. And we are going to let this guy run our country. OMG
More so, evidently, than the mingy, miserable level of "concern" Juan and his online hallelujah choir hold for what will happen to our economy, our national security and the very character of our culture, should his precious, destined-for-the-'Rat-voting-roles horde of 30,000,000+ illegals finally get forcibly crammed down our collective gullet. " ¡Sí, Se Puede!," eh...?
As Jack Kennedy once said “sometimes party loyalty asks too much”.
This is one of those times.
Careful about writing Reagan in. I think writing in a dead person can spoil the whole ballot in some states.
I think Conservatives are the ones who have had enough will all things liberal.
These comes a point where if we want to salvage out party we must lose a few times. It is worth losing to gain in 2010.
As rush says, if you know McAmnesty is going to sign that vile bill, and you know any democrats will follow the same path as McCain, in it not better to ALLOW THE DEMOCRATS TO GET BLAMED FOR IT INSTEAD.
Im mean lwt’s be real, this is why Weill be returned to power TO FIX WHAT THE DEMOCRATS MESSED UP.
Maybe we should let the Democrats have their way, For far to long We have shielded the voters from the Stupid naturue of Democrats. If they winn in 2008, the votes will have a Democrat Congress and a Domocrat President.
Nothing will be able to stop them. So voters will finally be able to see waht we have seen for Years.
If Republican Conservatives are not able to shield the voters from Socialists. The voters will soon realize HOW Worthless and scary and uncontroled Democrat party is.
So will win by losing in 2008, and win in 2010 when the Democrats hang themselves with their liberal policies.
Once the Republicnas stand back and allow the DEMOCRATS TO HANG THEMSELVES, we will be RETURNED TO POWER.
It is a good strategy after all.
Yes, and I also know that HE is always willing to give us another chance to repent.
Forget about waiting for a Darkhorse to appear for the GOP, we need a Knight in Shining Armor on a White Horse to save the GOP.
The prayer you best to say “Thy will be done”. He knows what you need.
God does have a plan for this country. “Pray without ceasing”. I’m not giving up on us.
