No flame, but having either obama or hillary or McCain CIC, is just stupid.

While I don't think McCain is deliberately serving as a Democrat puppet, the Democrats have figured out how to pull his strings. If such a thing is possible, he'll be even more dangerous as CIC than would Hillary.

I think this proves only one thing: Senator McCain needs to continue to make his case in convincing conservatives that he’s one of them. He’s already made a good start and I think that the telling fact is that many prominent strong conservatives are rallying around him.

Maybe it would help if he actually became conservative again, first.

Well, we had Newt Gingrich, but everyone whined about his "baggage." And conveniently forgetting his Contract with America.

Now look at what we've got. An open borders madman.

If I don’t vote this time, it will be the first time in my life that I haven’t. If I do, it will never be for McCain.

I agree with most of your thinking. Except for this:
4) I really believe that on the critical issues facing our nation — the WOT, the economy, immigration and taxes, all three of the candidates will be equally wrong-headed.
IMHO, you left off an important item, an item that may have a profound and very ill affect on our country for the next 30+ years. Namely SCOTUS.

There are two, maybe three, justices hanging on waiting to retire.

It really pains me to say this but I'd rather their successors be chosen by a PUB rather than a RAT.

Get familiar with your senators and reps and vote good solid conservatives in. It’s the ONLY way things will work out well.

You're right. The only reason Bill Clinton wasn't as bad as he could've been was because he had to work with a Republican Congress. If Hillary gets elected, there won't be any such advantage. It will be 4 years of hell.

The reality is that in spite of all this venting, most conservatives will cast their votes for McCain in the end

Two common errors. Confusing Republicans with conservatives and underestimating the tenacity of conservatives.

Conservatives will not vote for McCain. Republicans may. Conservatives are prepared to sacrifice a presidential rotation to preserve their freedoms. Republican partisans seek immediate reward, sacrificing principle in the pursuit of immediate gratification.

So here's what outofstyle intended:

The reality is that in spite of all this venting, many Republicans may cast their votes for McCain in the end.

nothing wrong with a little dreamin’ :-). I am doing one thing in November and one thing only. I am voting against the Democrat. Period. If this is what has to be, then this is what has to be. I will be fighting for Mitt Romney in 2012 if he runs again.

Like McCain is going to nominate any judges that haven’t been pre-approved by Ted.

Thanks for the lead on the Constitution Party
I know its wikipedia but like you, I hope there's something to pull the lever for in 11/08.
BTW Founding Father, You've been around here a heck of a long time!

As a one time Democrat many years ago, I think I sense a groundswell of change on their end. Someone somewhere reminded me once that "Abe" was a name small minded people may have taken issue with in that time. I hate thinking small! If his name is oddly Muslim so be it.

Teddy Kennedy is just another old senate hack like McCain, he isn't wrong all the time. I think the Clinton's worst nightmare, "Billy's little legacy problem", might just be this brand new guy in Jan/09.

On the other hand, Of course, I'm not going to vote for him. Of course, sadly I voted against Reagan twice. The best president of my lifetime. So take this all with a grain of salt. Historically speaking, I don't call winners.

Unlike writers everywhere else I admit it! I have no idea what's going to happen in this stupid election!!
I wanted it wide open, and I hate the results!

In 2000 I took exception to the way George W. went from nobody to the only candidate a good conservative would support. There was pressure, here on FR, I resisted, and I voted 3rd party. It doesn't matter that I cast my votes in Michigan. Paint it any color you want and I still vote for my principles. I do not. I never joined the republican party, and I won't!!

There must be another way. Another party please!

I hate polls like this...now if you were a conserative you would know the answer to is mccain a conserative or not...there should not be 200 people undecided. the same group didnt know if they would vote for him or not. some 1000 conservatives there.
btw if Mccain is president does the republican party have run him in `12?

The only thingy we can win is the WH. If you all don’t vote McCain then they will have 2/3 of the constitutional powers of the USA

Agreed.

As for 2012, it’s my understanding that McCain only plans to serve one term. Even if he changed his mind, by then, he will be older than dirt (in terms of running the country).
