The Archbishop of Canterbury will try to put aside the row over sharia law as he makes his first public appearance since the controversy erupted.
Dr Rowan Williams hit back on Friday night over criticism of his comments amid growing calls for his resignation.
He made no proposals for sharia, and "certainly did not call for its introduction as some kind of parallel jurisdiction to the civil law...
his core aim was "to tease out some of the broader issues around the rights of religious groups within a secular state".
At least two Synod members have already called for Dr Williams to go ...
Colonel Edward Armitstead, a Synod member ..."One wants to be charitable, but I sense that he would be far happier in a university where he can kick around these sorts of ideas."
And Alison Ruoff, a Synod member ...: "He is a disaster for the Church of England. He vacillates, he is a weak leader and he does not stand up for the Church. I would like to see him resign and go back to academia."

he was just teasing, don’t cha know.. lol
Sharia law was originally more enlightened in its attitude to women than other legal systems, Dr Williams pointed out...
.
That, FRiend, is the core of the logical fallacy of his position. People have rights, but the concept of "group rights" (what the French revolutionaries referred to as " collective liberty") is the source of tyranny.
Ping.
just teasing

I’ve been wanting this panty-waste to go for years!! I loathe that spineless worm...can’t stand to look at him. He’s a weak-kneed, leftist dhimmi who shames the very ground he walks on. He is unworthy of his position, and unworthy to lead a single English soul.
It might just be an object lesson in just how volatile public perceptions are.
Well, Anglicans here in the New World already figured that part out...when he did nothing as the liberals put in place the flagrantly homosexual bishop, held a Clown Eucharist, and proceeded to persecute (including through litigation in secular courts) anyone who stood up to defend the Bible.
[”One wants to be charitable, but I sense that he (Dr. Williams) would be far happier in a university where he can kick around these sorts of ideas.”
Better yet, in a mosque.
Thanks for clarifying that, george! ;o)
looks like you drew short straw and had to take the devil’s advocate stance, right? ;-0
This guy is a traitor to his country and the free world.
Anglicans everywhere need to throw this bum out.
not the first time...though I'm not too fond of that particular figure of speech....
Gad. Perhaps I misunderstood what I'd heard...will wait to see. With asbestos.
oh, I’ve been there more than once myself, sometimes unintentionally, others, welllll
Thank goodness sane folk believe in a forgiving God .. urrrrr
(slams the bunker door , tightens it down good)
Husbands with multiple wives have been given the go-ahead to claim extra welfare benefits ...
Even though bigamy is a crime in Britain, the decision by ministers means that polygamous marriages can now be recognised formally by the state...
The outcome will chiefly benefit Muslim men with more than one wife, as is permitted under Islamic law. Ministers estimate that up to a thousand polygamous partnerships exist in Britain, although they admit there is no exact record.

Just another secular appeasement wimp.

I feel you’re holding back...
