Did you even read what Thompson said? He said this was no longer about past grievances - it was about our party and defeating the liberals. I’m not ashamed of Fred. At least he didn’t suck up to McCain immediately like Rooty did.

I'm glad some of us are keeping our heads. I don't know what people were expecting. The sheer number of drama queens and conspiracy nuts we're seeing on this thread is disturbing.

McCain's going to be the nominee. Yeah, there's a tiny chance Huckabee might pull it out, but I think Fred's made it clear what he thinks of Huckabee. I happen to share Fred's opinion of him.

Given that McCain's going to be the nominee, what's Fred supposed to do? Withhold his endorsement and follow the flakes around here who actually think McCain would be no better than Hillary?

Fred's doing what people who lose nomination races are supposed to do: support the winner. We would have expected McCain and the rest to support Fred if he was the nominee. Why should we expect less of Fred?

“The reason it isn’t a big deal is that it’s not a surprise when a republican endorses the republican nominee.”

Exactly. McCain is the only Republican left. It’s unfortunate, but it’s a fact. I obviously wish Fred was the nominee, as he is infinitely better than McCain, but it’s over. I anticipated Fred would endorse the Republican candidate over the Democrat. He didn’t endorse when it appeared Romney could still have a chance at it, he waited until McCain was the obvious nominee. It does not change my respect for Fred and what he stood for.

Bashing Hunter for endorsing Huckabee is just as silly as bashing Fred Thompson for endorsing McCain. What else was either supposed to do?

It’s “nonsense” for a member of a political party to support that party’s nominee?

Neither is John McCain but try convincing the party lapdogs of that.

A more manipulated, contrived election I have never seen.”

I wish I could argue with you about that!

Maybe they remembered what Duncan Hunter said in your tag line, and decided against throwing the election to Hillary out of spite.

By the way, I fully expect Duncan Hunter to endorse John McCain once Huckabee withdraws or fails to win the nomination.

Why should the illegals vote for McCain when they can vote for Hillary or Obama?

I can’t tell you how disappointed I am that McCain is going to get the republican nomination. His principles are way out of touch with true conservative ideals. His stance on immigration alone borders on being criminal.

I liken those that blindly support the republican party to the frog that will not get out of the slowly simmering pan of water. In the end the frog dies and the republican backers lose any semblance of what their party was meant to stand for.

I switched to being an independent when the republican party left me a few years ago. I was actually going to vote for Romney if he won the republican nomination. There is no way that myself or a number of people I know are going to vote for McCain.

McCain reaches out to conservatives with his idiotic claim that we would be better off with him rather than Hillary or Barak. What that means is that on the top six issues Hillary is wrong on all six while McCain is “only” wrong on five.

“If this is the entire statement it’s not a very strong endorsement. Sounds more like recognition of the inevitable.

I still won’t vote for McCain. I’m voting for Fred.”

I hope you are talking about voting for Fred in your primary. I also hope everyone who has not voted in their primary race will at least vote! This FredHead voted for Romney after Fred left the race, and I will vote for whomever the Republican nominee happens to be. Looks like it will be McCAin, so having to hold my nose I will still vote against the DEMS!

“At least he waited until McCain’s nomination was a fait acompli.”

Agree. It’s more of a compliment to Romney and a slap to Huck, than an endorsment of McCain. At least that’s the way I read the timing of it.
