Can Mitt Still Win?

Can Mitt still win?

Frankly, no – the arithmetic makes it all but impossible

The Republicans have already chosen most of their delegates, and Romney has won only 256 of the 1,417 chosen so far—some 18%.

To get the delegates he needs to lock up the nomination, Romney would not only have to improve his performance, he’d have to become virtually perfect – winning 934 of the 963 delegates who haven’t yet been chosen. Unless all other candidates dropped out of the race, there’s no way anyone will scoop up more than 97% of the delegates remaining. Even if Mitt gives the greatest speech of his life at tomorrow’s conference of CPAC (the Conservative Political Action Committee) he can’t win enough delegates to become this year’s nominee.

I don’t wish him personal ill, but I do wish him career ill. I hope he bombs hugely, and is shamed (or simply campaigned) out of the race.

If he get half of them, we can have a brokered convention.

I observed the same. It kills me to see the conservative base treated this way. I am interested to see what the actual demographics of the voters were. In my precint where the average age was 33-37 with alot of parents with kids still at home, Romney won with over 4-1 stats. I am in CO where we’re not known for our strong Conservative politics. I am guessing that there were record numbers of baby boomers and geriatrics to help boost the McCain/Huckabee presidency to where it is now.

Correction — if Romney and Huckabee take 1/2 of the remaining delegates we can have a brokered convention. Romney needs to play smart for the good of his country and not spend in the states where Huck can more easily take the win. Huck doesn’t have the money to spend in states that Romney can more easily take — so it’s up to Romney. I hope Romney is living up in Washington state right now, cause Huck might take Louisianna. Kansas . . . who knows?

I do too. He’s a disaster for conservatives.

Which is currently my hope. Perhaps the anti-McCain push can give Mitt 60 or 65% and then we defiantly have a brokered convention.

It will be interesting to see how McCain is received a CPAC. If he makes one arrogant, stupid statement I suspect he’ll be pelted with eggs - A virtual certainty since almost everything out of McCain’s mouth falls into one or the other of these two categories.

I think he’s due on at 3 and Romney must be on about now. Too bad the order of appearance isn’t reversed.

The age demographics I’ve seen (in polls) show the young (18-30) and the old (over 65) are the voters who are for McCain.

At a brokered convention, ALL the current crop can be thrown out and a new person selected...............

I would like to see MR get enough delegates to keep JM from winning and then see a floor fight at the convention.

Romney should go before the Nation and simply tell them that if McCain, or the broken Washington establishment, is what he wants then he will get out of the way. It amazes me how a person like McCain, who basically was in the tank, can win the Republican nomination. It wouldn’t surprise me though if McCain asked Hillary to be his running mate.
