Sharia law in UK is 'unavoidable' The Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams says the adoption of Islamic Sharia law in the UK is "unavoidable".
Dr Williams told BBC Radio 4's World at One that the UK has to "face up to the fact" that some of its citizens do not relate to the British legal system.
Dr Williams argues that adopting some aspects of Sharia law would help maintain social cohesion.
For example, Muslims could choose to have marital disputes or financial matters dealt with in a Sharia court.
He says Muslims should not have to choose between "the stark alternatives of cultural loyalty or state loyalty".
In an exclusive interview with BBC correspondent Christopher Landau, ahead of a lecture to lawyers in London later on Monday, Dr Williams argues this relies on Sharia law being better understood. At the moment, he says "sensational reporting of opinion polls" clouds the issue.
He stresses that "nobody in their right mind would want to see in this country the kind of inhumanity that's sometimes been associated with the practice of the law in some Islamic states; states; the extreme punishments, the attitudes to women as well".
But Dr Williams says the argument that "there's one law for everybody... I think that's a bit of a danger".
"There's a place for finding what would be a constructive accommodation with some aspects of Muslim law, as we already do with some other aspects of religious law."
Dr Williams adds: "What we don't want either, is I think, a stand-off, where the law squares up to people's religious consciences."

the archbishop has a point: if u are going to promote Islamic fascism then you better be ready to appease them if you want to live.
thats why i say islam has to be defeated. we cant coincide with Islam without losing our freedom, and even our lives.
If only this could be applied elsewhere. Conservatives do not want to choose between cultural loyalty or state loyalty either. Let them reject homosexuality, multiculturalism, gun control, nationalized health care and socialist taxes in the name of cultural loyalty.
The latter is not in the least like his boss. In fact, Nazir-Ali has a fatwa on his head and is virtually in hiding for having said that Britain has no-go zones (neighborhoods where only Muslims can enter, but nobody else) and that Muslims are refusing to adapt to their host country.

I’m all for offering the hand of friendship to others, but why is it always the Christians who have to compromise?

The point is that Parliament, the elected representatives of the people, decide the laws that govern us. If you dont like those laws, you have three choices. Either campaign to have them changed, disobey them and suffer the consequences thereto, or leave and find another country whose laws are more to your liking.
When a nation embraces human cloning, animal/human hybrid embryos, homosexual marriage, contraception and abortion for teens with no need for parental consent and euthanasia for the weak, there's really no other means of reigning it in. It's too far gone. Only a dose of undiluted Islam can bring it to its senses.
Britain has spat on its Christian heritage. It holds it in contempt. Yes, the Archbishop is insane, but then again, so is Britain as a whole.
I'd always imagined that sharia would come to the UK but that it would await an increase in Muslim numbers and would come as a result of some violent, societal upheaval. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe kindly folks like the Archbishop will do the Muslims a favor and the Brits will simply introduce it themselves, thus confirming their terminal insanity and commit suicide in the process.

because we’re the only ones able to compromise. Muslims cant compromise, their faith is based on conquest, and they are forced to follow Imams over anything else. people of no faith cant compromise either, simply because they have nothing to believe in in the first place.
