Could This Be Possible?
Peter N. Lewis

Okay, so this evening was like a glass of cold water hitting me in the face.

The GOP is on its way to nominating McCain as our Presidential candidate. If this happens, I WILL NOT vote Republican this Presidential election.

Here is my question, could Huckabee or Romney drop out, and endorse the other candidate, and request their delegates to join them in that support?

Could a VP promise from either of these men, with egos set aside, save the conservative vote?

I am willing to vote for EITHER of those two men for POTUS, and am willing to bet if the two were paired up, most conservatives would be willing to as well, especially considering the alternative.

I find it so laughable that McCain is calling himself the "true conservative" when nothing is further from the truth...

So, once again, is it possible for either of the candidates to do this?

From what I am reading on the Internet, I believe only a very few of Romney/Huckabee's delegates are hard, and could vote either direction once they convention comes around.

Just an idea I wanted to see what you guys thought of this, and if it would be possible or not.

“I lived through Carter and Clinton, and I’ll live through Clinton II or Obama or McCain.”

You might, but I think thousands or millions won’t, should be surrender the WOT.

That’s a pretty creative non-sequitur, for someone who’s a “suicide voter”.

So you’re indifferent to all issues but immigration? Does this mean you’ll vote for the Democrat if he/she is more pro-secure-borders than the Republican nominee? Will you write in Tom Tancredo?

Or maybe you’ll write in Ron Paul? He is dead wrong on foreign policy, in most Republican’s minds, but his position on immigration is solid.

Any way you look at it, you’re still a suicide voter.

Speaking of the culture of death, I don’t think that’s what the pope meant either.

How dare you? Inject yourself into what had been a perfectly civil and informative discourse, with your carefully crafted little speech (probably took you all day), only to dismissively tell a fellow FReeper to “Run along”? Who died and made you God—or Jim Robinson?

If you (and your offensively sexist “Brown nipples” mentality), wish to join the discussion, then do so, but don’t offend our intelligence, or sensibilities, with that knuckle dragging, skin crawlingly stupid, B.S.!

......and you are trying to convince the rest of us to “to the right thing”? Good Grief.

Well, Hilary and Obama will certainly let all the illegals in.

McCain has said he will secure the border first. At least there is a chance with McCain.

There’s no chance with Hilary or Obama.

I think Huckabee had it right yesterday: he told CNN he respects McCain and “would certainly vote for him before I would vote for Hillary or Obama.”

“Some people need to switch to decaf and realize, folks, we may not get all of our battles just like we want, but there’s a larger context in which this has to be fought,” Huckabee added.

HA

“can we afford to give Osama and Co. four free years in this war of civilizations?”

McCain wants to close gitmo, redefine waterboarding as “torture”, and join the ICC so our soldiers, airmen and marines can be prosecuted in the Hague.

Can we afford President McCain?

“By contrast, Romney has not leveled (much? any? ...none that I’ve heard of, at least) snide personal remarks towards Huckabee.”

You are right. Romney has behaved with class and dignity.

McCain and bondage boy Huckabee have acted like a couple of turds begging to get flushed.

“You’ll have a lot more than four years if H. Clinton appoints Supreme Court justices, which seems likely.”

What makes you think McCain’s justices would be any better?

Abortion is not an issue within the Republican party.

Abortion is a show-stopper issue regarding whether to vote Republican or Democrat. They are all pro-abortion and Republicans are all pro-life.

Now think about that the next time you say there's no difference between our likely nominee and the Democrat nominee on immigration, and you'll vote for the Democrat rather than vote for our likely nominee:

"I just wish I was as damn sure I was going to vote for McCain, “like it or not”. I may join Ann Colter and vote for Hillary. We’re both women, that gives me as many things in common with her as with McCain—and she’s not quite as crazy as he is!"

You'll be a suicide voter.

The polling I am referring to is during his immigration push. He was broke, laying off staff and yes indeed his poll numbers were in the crapper.

Nevertheless, why are you trying to sell McBlame on FR?????
You hang out on a Conservative web site telling Conservatives to suck it up and get excited for a moderate republican (at best) for president???? The base of the Republican party will not buy the crap he is selling, unless the base is now moderate, progressive, liberal republicans guys who vote single issue junk. As you have wrongly observed we are not angry spoiled whiners, we have a set of Conservative principles that are more important than siding with a swish like McCain. Come November we will unite against a common enemy, either Hillary or Obama, and let the Democraps take the heat for bad policies. Its better than McCain spliting the Republicans between those who will support any bill if its from a liberal republican, and those of us who know crap when we see it. Perhaps a liberal like Obama, or het thighness will unite republicans, because McBlame will not.

but he won the vote with those who say they are “somewhat conservative.” He also won with those claiming to be moderates or liberals who voted in the Republican primaries.

Kabar has answered your question to me far more eloquently than I ever could. Excellent, excellent response.

You weren't paying much attention. He didn't say he's inclined to vote for the Democrat like you did (a suicide voter). He said he'd vote straight Republican, except for the President, and for that he'd write in his daughter's name.

I'll give him a pass -- he's got way too much emotionally invested to vote for the man he's been following around the country to protest against. I understand -- I don't like it, but I understand. I also know 99.9 percent of other Republicans aren't that emotionally invested in the amnesty question -- especially since McCain has changed his position after the public outcry over securing the borders first.

We still have CPAC in a few days. We'll see what happens.

Dear zipper, thank you, truly, for your concern over my possible “suicide”. Honestly. I appreciate your earnestness. The reports of my suicide, however, are greatly exaggerated. LOL

If you’ve been with this thread from the beginning, you probably read my post regarding my 50 year, plus (Lordy, it’s closer to sixty!), campaigning career. I guess I didn’t grow up during the 60’s for nothing. I’d be a full time campaigner, for one thing or another, if my family could stand it. This campaign cycle, I have done my “civic duty” for THREE different presidential candidates! Even the family’s heads are spinning!

I could NEVER, even with hot irons applied to my feet, vote for Hillary Clinton! I was just trying to yank the chains of some, who needed to pay attention, and to inspire some healthy, spirited discussion! (I’ve a very strong suspicion Ann Colter is probably in a similar place.) You must admit, we did certainly have a fabulous “chat”, all of us! Old habits, and I mean REALLY OLD habits, die hard.

Again, thank you for your concern for my “voting soul”.

>>gondram, your tag is wonderful. It makes me feel good just to read it.<<

Thank you. I learned from the experience of a gentleman who promised God he would minister to every person he met. He found that to be quite impractical in the Army and even outside found that actions and the way we treat others can be more effective than what we say. Best to you.

Hillary and Obama have said they will secure the border as well. Both signed the 2006 Secure Fence Act.
