Mike Huckabee won the first of 21 GOP contests on Super Tuesday, pulling out a victory in the West Virginia Republican convention even though Mitt Romney won the first round.

The convention had to go into a second round of voting Tuesday after no candidate took a clear majority. Texas Rep. Ron Paul was knocked out in the first round, but Huckabee, Romney and John McCain moved forward.

Funny thing. If it’s anybody but Huckabee, I won’t vote, either. So I guess we’ll cancel each other out.

Actually we agree; you just set your bar a little bit higher than mine.

Are you an idiot?

Do you realize we only have 3 choices? And of those 3 choices, McCain is the worst. Huck does not have a chance against Hillary. So Romney is all that is left.

Romney is by far the most impressive and able. He may be liberal but I don’t see any conservative candidates put up by our GOP - do you?

Which is why the GOP has been infiltrated and will not even support conservatism. If our party can only give us these choices, they are worthless.

Time for a new party of conservatism since we are losing everything this election anyway. Let the GOP go their own way. They have given us nothing.

“anti-Mormon hatred is overshadowing everything else.”

Unfortunately, that’s sure what it looks like.

I did not see him siding with another candidate (2 to 1) to undermine one of the candidates.

This is a deal - McCain turned his delegates loose to allow Huck to beat Romney. Good for McCain you see.

I think ole Huck is hoping to win VP or a Washington position of power. Or, power has already gone to his head.I have sure lost a lot of respect for him.

Correct assessment on all counts.

Tactical maneuver by the McCain-Huckabee team .

Typically McCain move. Pure a-hole.

I will not vote for McCain under any circumstance.

"pimping of Christianity" ~ you will definitely need to give us some hard references to that, and I don't want to hear about the damned bookcase again ~ this is what a cross looks like and don't forget it:

The House may well prove to be the one institution near-term worth fighting to regain control of... but don’t count on the current crop of leaders in the GOP party to do the right thing. Their track record of late isn’t so great. The 2006 election results is proof of that.

Hastert is gone now.

So that's some benefit. Denny is shilling for liberal Romney, of course.

manc: “I cannot believe some republicans would throw out their principles”

It depends on what principles you are talking about. Mittbots want social conservatives to toss out pro-life, 2nd Amendment, and traditional marriage principles for the ol’ flip flopper.

Since none of the candidates have the right combination of principles to appeal to most Republicans, voters are being forced to pick and choose which principles are most important to them. It’s not like conservatives WANT to throw out certain principles in favor of others.

FRed Thompson was the only lead candidate with the potential to unite all of the factions, but 90% of Republicans never even had the chance to vote for him. Now we are faced with nothing but hard choices.

I have to agree with Rush about the end of the Republican party. The party that I thought I was a part of doesn’t seem to exist anymore and I’m sure not a liberal...something’s going to have to give.

Typically, delegates are committed to their candidate for the first round of voting, and are then free to vote for whomever they please. Assuming there’s no candidate with a majority of Delegates by September, Huckabee could release his delegates to McCain.

According to your chart Huckabee needed what? About 18% to get to 51%. The most he got from McCain was 15%. It helped but who switched votes to put him over?

What we are talking about is you here that are helping McCain - who is unstable, will raise taxes, will allow the inheritance tax be reinstated (meaning all of what you leave for your family will first be taxed for the government).

If you would listen to Rush instead of just lambasting him you might understand what is going on here. But, you just lambast him. The man is worth listening to as he is the one that has done the most for the conservative movement for the last 15 years.

I did too. And, I resent a few states determining who the candidates are for all the other states. Who gave them the power to pick candidates for all Americans?

"far from"?

Doggone you make me feel igorant ~ haven't even seen the guy talk all that much about being Christian ~ just been following him as Governor for 10 years, and he looked to be a fairly Christian man in that job.

But good on showing the flag in church ~ they did that in the Old Yellow Church ~ used 10 languages, and something like 5 different faiths shared the same building ~ and three races, but they were the first guys to have the flag up.

Good American custom.
