NEW YORK GIANTS VS NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
Sunday February 3, 2008
At University of Phoenix Stadium
Glendale, AZ
6:17PM ET
TV Network: FOX
In 1967 Lamar Hunt came up with the name “Super Bowl” for the NFL-AFL Championship game. The following year, there was much talk about what the Championship game would be called that year. IIRC it was Pete Rozelle who came up with the Roman numeral idea. Most fans thought it not such a good idea, but it stuck anyway.
I hate the bye week even when the Pats aren’t playing in the big game.
ROLFLMAO - one more Stalone sequal and we will have to add some more Xs or Vs or somethng......
The commercials have been pretty lousy the past few years.
Why would you want your team to have lost to an also-ran? If I have to lose at anything, I’d rather lose to the Champ.
The first Super Bowl to use the Roman numerals officially I believe was Super Bowl III.
There was a Simpson’s episode where Bart was learning Roman numerals. He figured out the Roman numeral by adding Rocky II with Rocky V which of course equaled Rocky VII: Adrian’s Revenge.
I’m workin’ from memory here, so you may be right. Either way, when the Roman numerals first came into play, the fans panned the idea.
Nah the mods always move this one to the breaking news when they feel like it.
It’s still Pats -12.
Heck even the name “Super Bowl” was mocked in the press.
It sure was. Back then anything slightly above average was called Super-whatever.
I think the press was more upset about the NFL using the word “bowl”.
Every year some yahoo comes along and posts a Super Bowl Live Thread right before we put our thread up. This year we decided to get it up early and will ping the list a couple of times tomorrow to keep this thread front and center for the Live Thread.
I asked mainepatsfan to put it up early.
We are tired of the same situation every year.....
I’m not sure but that’s been the number for a few days now.
Bookmarked for tomorrow.
