My Mom used to say “Monkey see, monkey do!” She meant it not as an insult, though it can double quite well for that, but as a learning moment for us kids.
I have no children at home and my grandchildren are all too old to watch kid’s tv, but I do know that many of the programs have the kids doing things that are potentially dangerous. Kids mimic what they see, in language, clothes and behavior. And sadly most kids watch tv without their parents, so there is no one to point out the dangers of things they might see.
The whole thing is sad beyond words, except for those in the prayers that I offer for everyone involved. A lot of lives have been changed forever.
I would bet you're right on that. We used to do silly things like this when I was in school. I used to take pictures for our high school yearbook, and I took one of a kid that some of the senior guys had picked up and hung by the back of his belt on the flagpole. The kid was actually smiling and waving at the camera. I took a couple of shots, wished him good luck, and went back to class. I'm not sure how he even got down. (The photo did make the yearbook, and he was kept busy signing his picture, so he got a little boost in popularity out of it in the end).
I suppose things have changed some, as there really wasn't any malice in most of the pranks we did back then. Looking back, one realizes that there was always the chance that something could have happened that you never meant to happen, but that is how life is. This incident is one of those times. It's a tragedy, and sadly, all who were involved will have to live with it the rest of their lives.
Frankly I would be surprised if this is anything more than just a silly prank gone bad, really bad. As bad as a prank can go. Im sure kids in that school have seen the same treatment given a kid on TV and the laugh track made it seem hilarious....

My thoughts exactly. This is the kind of junk that passes for humor on TV these days.
Hanging someone from a hook with his pants down is a "prank"?
You need to see a shrink.
It's a depraved act of violence.
