Lauren Richardson Becomes Next Terri Schiavo as Parents Debate Euthanasia (Delaware)
LifeNews ^ | 2/1/2008 | Steven Ertelt

Posted on 02/01/2008 2:51:57 PM PST by Pyro7480

A Delaware woman has become the next Terri Schiavo as her parents engage in a massive legal and philosophical debate about whether to subject her to euthanasia. Richardson is a 23-year-old woman who overdosed on heroin in August 2006 while she was three months pregnant with a baby girl.

Doctors kept Lauren on life support until she delivered her baby in February 2007. Shortly thereafter, her parents began a fight that is reminiscent of the battle over Terri's life and death.

As in the Terri Schiavo case, physicians have been quick to label Lauren as having a persistent vegetative state -- something Terri's family called dehumanizing and medically inaccurate as patients have recovered from it.

Edith Towers, Lauren's mother, wants to remove her feeding tube and starve and dehydrate her to death in the same manner that Michael Schiavo subjected Terri.

Towers claims Lauren would never have wanted to live as a permanently disabled person, but Lauren, as with Terri, did not have a living will or other advance directive spelling out her treatment wishes. She claims Lauren told her during Terri's battle that she would not want to live like her.

On the other side is Randy Richardson, Lauren's father is fighting to save her life and wants to be appointed as her guardian to ensure she receives appropriate medical care and treatment.

"She's committed no crime and doesn't deserve to have this death imposed on her," Richardson told the News Journal newspaper on Wednesday. "We just want to give her a chance."

Lauren no longer uses a ventilator or other breathing apparatus and is not on artificial life support -- something Randy contends is showing progress.

Towers is winning the legal battle in court as she was awarded guardianship of Lauren, but Randy Richardson has filed an appeal.

The News Journal indicates Delaware Court of Chancery Master Sam Glasscock III has put any action taking Lauren's life on hold while the court reviews the guardianship ruling -- a process that could take as much as three months to complete.

Regardless of the decision, an appeal to the Delaware Supreme Court is expected.

Randy Richardson also has other concerns about his daughter and says that Towers, his ex-wife, has not allowed Lauren's baby to see her.

Richardson and the Delaware Pro-Life Coalition released a video on Wednesday that shows Lauren at a nursing home reacting to family members and a dog.

The pro-life group also organized a prayer vigil near the Arbors Rehab Center in New Castle.

Worcester, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Continuing on the trend the nation's largest abortiuon business has started in other cities, the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts is demolishing its current two-story abortion facility in Worcester. PPLM will replace it with a larger 33,000 square-foot three-story abortion center.

Felos, author of "Litigation as Spiritual Practice" has a history with disabled women who can't speak for themselves. As a matter of fact, George Felos has a habit of speaking for them.

What kind of "newspeak" crap title is this. Murder is only a "spiritual practice" for those that worship Satan.

"Such a deep, dark, silent blue. I stared as far into her eyes as I could, hoping to sense some glimmer of understanding, some hint of awareness. The deeper I dove, the darker became the blue, until the blue became the black of some bottomless lake. "Mrs. Browning, do you want to die ... do you want to die?" I nearly shouted as I continued to peer into her pools of strikingly beautiful but incognizant blue. It felt so eerie. Her eyes were wide open and crystal clear, but instead of the warmth of lucidity, they burned with the ice of expressionlessness."

This sounds EXACTLY like something that a serial killer would write, which of course Felos is.

Felos should get on a plane for Chicago this morning and go help Drew Peterson who has probably uttered similar words to at least two wives.

A de novo hearing? Well, it didn’t work out for Terri. Judge Whittemore ran out the clock and didn’t even permit water to touch Terri’s lips while he was running out the clock and then saying, “no” de novo. It wasn’t his call. He was ordered by U.S. Congress and Bush 43 and HE DEFIED THEIR ORDER. (since the fix was in, he was never held in contempt of Congress which is what would have happened had Congress not been in in the fix).

Since the courts are so ignorant and likely don't know WHO KNOWS WHAT ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO TERRI, they have no idea what laid off employees will do or say.

I hope they go for a book deal, run to Lou Dobbs (notice I didn't say Fox) and get a good PR person and HOLD A PRESS CONFERENCE. This will happen. They can't bribe everybody who's getting laid off.

They shut up Alberto Gonzalez so he's not gonna spill the beans.

Disgruntled employees let go from the State of Florida will spill the beans. If they're at home collecting unemployment with nothing but time on their hands, they can start writing a tell all book.

If I'm not mistaken, Estelle Browning fought for the right to be killed but died of natural causes before she was killed. Correct me if I'm wrong. She's set the precedent with the Supreemes of Fla to bump people off. Then, there was new law that feeding tubes were medical equipment instead of nutrition. JEB BUSH SIGNED IT INTO LAW.

It all flies in the face of Florida Statute that I have on my profile page. WHAT JUDGE GREER DID TO TERRI WAS, IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE A FELONY.

We have seen more and more behind the Futile Care laws since the case with Andrea Clark and the Texas Futile Care Law. As this effort by the death dealers is unmasked by warriors like Wesley J. Smith, we witness sometimes an amazing and heartwarming story like this. Thanks, Les.

....................

Doctors deciding who will be allowed to fight to remain alive and who will be forced out of treatment is epidemic in the UK where nationalized health care combined with huge influence by utilitarian bioethicists results in some patients being thrown out of the lifeboat.

This is a case of a near miss. From the story:

Yvonne Sullivan, 28, lost consciousness suffering from severe blood poisoning moments after being told that baby Clinton had died. Despite grieving for their lost son, her husband Dominic, 37, kept a round-the-clock vigil at her bedside for two weeks as she lay in intensive care.

But when doctors told him they could have to switch off her life support machine, Mr Sullivan took drastic action--by giving his wife a firm telling-off. He held his wife's hand and demanded: "You start fighting. Don't you dare give up on me now. I've had enough, stop mucking around and start breathing. Come back to me."

Two hours later she started to breathe steadily again.

This case is also an example of a supposedly unconscious woman--who wasn't:

She even remembers hearing her husband yelling at her as she lay in a coma and says it gave her the strength to pull through.

She said: "I can't remember exactly what he said but I never liked getting told off by Dom. Something inside me just clicked and I began to fight again. When I came round I thought he'd been gone a few minutes, then he told me I'd been out for two weeks. It's a miracle. I owe him so much."

We will never know how many such cases there are when patients who might have come back were cut off by doctor decision making. This is our future, too if we don't stop Futile Care Theory.

The Obama Nation revisited...

Something equivocal here:

.........................

David Chauncey, in his Feb. 16 op-ed page column, advised us not to support Barack Obama; that we should "get past the rhetoric and look at the facts."

OK. Let's do.

In the Illinois Senate Obama was the "go-to" guy on a variety of issues in the two years Democrats controlled the chamber. In the Fall of 2003, while still in the Legislature, he spoke out against attacking Iraq. This, at the time, was a courageous thing to do. Hillary Clinton then voted to give Bush the authorization to attack Iraq.

In March 2005, the emergency bill in Congress to allow Terri Schiavo's parents ask a federal judge to prolong her life by reinserting her feeding tube probably would have been stopped if any senator had objected. Obama later apologized for his silence, but Clinton is still silent.............................

We continue to review futile care in various quarters, here with a look into the Dutch laws and protocols for executions of innocents. Thread by wagglebee.

GARRISON, NY, February 22, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In 2005 the world was horrified when it was revealed that in the Netherlands doctors were not only openly admitting that they had killed disabled newborn infants, but that the medical institution was actively promoting child euthanasia through the so-called Groningen Protocol. The protocol - the full name of which is The Groningen Protocol for Euthanasia in Newborns - lays out a set of guidelines that must be followed in making and executing the decision to kill a newborn infant.

The revelation that newborn euthanasia was both common and acceptable in the Netherlands was greeted with harsh criticisms from around the world, with one Italian Minister going to far as to accuse the Netherlands of Nazism. Others expressed their disgust that many of the children who were being euthanized by Dutch doctors were children with Spina Bifida, a condition with which many people have lived well into adulthood and had fulfilling lives.

A lengthy report that appears in the most recent issue of The Hastings Center Report - called by conservative bioethicist Wesley Smith the "world's most prestigious" journal of bioethics - however, strongly defends The Groningen Protocol as humane and perfectly ethical. It especially defends the ethical nature of the protocol's provisions for killing newborns with conditions that would allow them to live for many years....................

From Sanger to Singer... Thread by wagglebee.

February 22, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - There was a time, not so long ago, when pro-lifers, in an effort to galvanize the apathetic, would recount to them the disturbing opinions of a certain Princeton professor, Peter Singer, who, amongst other things, has long held that it is ethical to kill disabled newborn children.

For instance, in a 2006 interview Singer was asked point-blank: "Would you kill a disabled baby?" His response? "Yes, if that was in the best interests of the baby and of the family as a whole."......................

How abortion affects... Thread by bad company.

An artist killed herself after aborting her twins when she was eight weeks pregnant, leaving a note saying: "I should never have had an abortion. I see now I would have been a good mum."

Emma Beck was found hanging at her home in Helston, Cornwall, on Feb 1 2007. She was declared dead early the following day - her 31st birthday......................

What is the mother’s motivation? Why, other than possibly granting her daughters wish (which is in dispute), would Lauren’s mother want her dead?

To many people the cross means nothing. The fact that she was wearing one doesn’t mean that she is opposed to what is going to happen to her.

Without presuming what possesses the mom I see a number of possible and valid motives. I don't even think the reasons per se are necessarly profound, just a light framework upon which the bioethic club can build.

Perhaps she is in huge denial. We have seen plenty of that with parents who can't bear to face what happened and just hope it goes away. We have seen parents with selfish motives, once again not profound, but just enough, who figure life would be better if the problem went away. I suspect many an abortion evolved thusly.

That leaves an inroad for the club of "bioethickers" (Our term for the purveyors of the dark craft of controlling who dies, as in bioethick heads...) Some like George Felos, one who drools over killings like this, have started to weigh in. With someone like the mom carrying maybe some of the aforementioned tendencies, they can pry and influence to get her on their side.

I also think they have pulled a chamber of silence over her head and she may have no idea her daughter would suffer a horribly agonizing death over many days as happened to Terri. After it is too late, her newfound friends won't care anyway.

You’re entitled to your opinion but you are treading deep water saying wearing a cross means nothing to many people. In the alternative, wearing a cross means SOMETHING to a majority of Christians! Lauren’s doesn’t mean starve and dehydrate me, that’s fo sure.

The culture of death (who purport to believe in "bioethics" but actually worship Satan) has so infiltrated the medical community that many doctors actually believe that involuntary death is preferable to treating the sick. They transmit their evil beliefs to the family of those who suffer and many succumb to their agenda. It would appear that Lauren's mother is one of them.

George Felos is a hypnotist and a pro at the power of suggestion. If mom is near such an Obama-like figure, her vulnerability is easy for the pickings. I don’t compare death lawyers to Obama as a compliment.
