Romney signed a new assault weapons ban as governor. That bill also extended the length of concealed carry licenses from four to six years or some such. I still don’t think you trade off a class of weapons to get two years on your permits.
Out of 280 to 300 million people in our nation, assault weapons have probably been responsibe for less than 20 deaths over the last ten years. Why should they be banned?
They shouldn’t. Romney’s wrong.
Meanwhile, McCain wants to close the non-existent “gun show loophole”, which will pave the way for closing the “private sale loophole” (which can only be closed through total firearms registration).
Romney signed a bill that crossed his desk in a very liberal state. While McCain enlisted the help of the left and went out of his way to close a fraudulent “loophole” using statistics provided by the anti-gun lobby.
Romney may have come up weak in his defense of 2A as the Governor of Mass. But McCain initiated his assault against it. There’s a crucial difference there.
When the federal ban expired the overwhelmingly lib legislature was planning on a much more restrictive ban romney convinced them to copy the federal ban which consist of basically a flash hider ban in exchange for his not veto. The permits cost 100 so I will take the 2 year extension on them. He saved mass from tough cali style bans.
