Romney is running on a conservative platform, has conservative support, will be beholding to conservatives and therefore is going to have to govern that way, or risk his second term. That’s the way it works and most people seem to understand that. Unfortunately, in your ignorance, you don’t.

That is one of the most naive statements I've seen on FR in a long time. And there have been some doozies lately.

You're talking about a guy who appointed 75% Democrats or Democrat leaners to the bench in MA while governor, including homo-marriage advocates. He has never been beholden to conservatives and is not about to start now. What he is, though, is an expert at advancing liberalism on the sly, while appearing to be a conservative.

Pray he loses next week. At least with McCain, he'll probably only serve one term. Obama is likely to be there for two.

The premise of this whole thread is that IF McCain were the nominee and IF Hillary were the Dem nominee then who would you vote for? If Romney is the nominee, then this discussion is null and void. Also, if McCain is the nominee and Obama on the Dem side, then I would bet my bank account (what is left of it) that the Republicans would line up behind McCain in lightening speed.
