Reagan Library Republican Presidential Debate: January 30, 2008
SIMI VALLEY, California (CNN) -- Republican presidential hopefuls will face off Wednesday night without a familiar face as ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to drop out and endorse front-runner Sen. John McCain.
The remaining candidates will take the stage in a debate -- sponsored by CNN, the Los Angeles Times and Politico -- beginning at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.
The event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, follows McCain's Tuesday night win in the Florida primary.
McCain topped former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 36 percent to 31 percent in the hotly contested race.
Giuliani placed third with 15 percent of the vote, followed closely by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 14 percent, and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was fifth with 3 percent.
Giuliani is expected to end his White House bid and endorse McCain at a campaign event in California later Wednesday, Republican Party sources said.
Minus Giuliani, the debate will be a four-candidate affair -- McCain, Romney, Huckabee and Paul -- with CNN's Anderson Cooper moderating.

“I’d want McCain too if I was a Dem.”
Not so. The prevailing thought is for Romney, who Dims think would be much easier for Hillary to beat. Alan Colmes said on H & C the other day, “Go Romney!”
What is that limp in/on his left cheek ? Looks like he’s chewing tobacco.
Is there a video of the whole debate up yet?
You may be right. It is certain that the she did serve Ronald Reagan as a loving wife as near as I can tell. Those years with him failing must have been very tough.
Isn’t “American Idol” on tonight?
It’s beyond sad.
Was that Ahnold Mrs. Reagan was talking to? I thought it was Wayne Newton.
LOL...McCain's ego will not be able to take the rejection. It will be most interesting to watch.
Romney needs Huckabee to drop out!
He’s like a Snake in the grass.
My answer to your question would be, what has that knowledge have to do with the qualifications of being POTUS? The POTUS is unique in having to swear to uphold and protect the Constitution of the US. That is the quality that should be honed in this vetting process. Not that he knows who xyz of which petty state with this particular title or nuanced tick did this or that, or that he follows very special details of petty undeclared missions of the Greater State of the US. Not as a Nation but as a Country should the new POTUS aspire. Screw Abu. Bring troops back not in defeat but as our Fortress America and victory will be assured against the whatever is their latest king of their dunghill.
Roberts: "So, private. You wouldn't do it publicly? Because the president has said flat out that he will veto anything the Congress passes about a timetable for troop withdrawals. As president, would you do the same?"
Romney: "Well, of course.
ROFL!
I agree. But I don't think "carrying the South" really matters to Southerners like it used to.
John Edwards, with his syrupy twang, couldn't even carry his own state 2004. And Algore couldn't deliver Tennessee in 2000.
A good candidate is a good candidate and Southerners will support him, no matter where he was born.
Now CNN is running Democrat propaganda, like the debate is obsolete already. Oh my God, CNN is feces, not hiding their Democrat agenda at all.
“At the time, of one mind”, is the operative phrase. It suited the MSM purposes at that time. Totally laughable and oh so predictable.
[For both Romney and McCain, casting their lot with the president on Iraq is a gamble that carries political peril. Unlike the other potential GOP candidates who have remained mum on how theyd handle Iraq they are now on record in supporting a controversial move that critics argue will likely worsen the situation in Iraq.]
