Reagan Library Republican Presidential Debate: January 30, 2008

SIMI VALLEY, California (CNN) -- Republican presidential hopefuls will face off Wednesday night without a familiar face as ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to drop out and endorse front-runner Sen. John McCain.

The remaining candidates will take the stage in a debate -- sponsored by CNN, the Los Angeles Times and Politico -- beginning at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.

The event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, follows McCain's Tuesday night win in the Florida primary.

McCain topped former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 36 percent to 31 percent in the hotly contested race.

Giuliani placed third with 15 percent of the vote, followed closely by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 14 percent, and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was fifth with 3 percent.

Giuliani is expected to end his White House bid and endorse McCain at a campaign event in California later Wednesday, Republican Party sources said.

Minus Giuliani, the debate will be a four-candidate affair -- McCain, Romney, Huckabee and Paul -- with CNN's Anderson Cooper moderating.

Romney has thought out the issues and articulates them consistently better than all the other candidates. The Dem debates lack substance, which I could be inebriated and still do well. I can only imagine what Romney could do to them.

Romney is getting better and better at this. He absolutely destroyed Queeg tonight. If I were Mitt, I’d start thinking about running as an independent. He’s got the cash to do it.

A great idea, worth quoting and bumping. McQueeg must be stopped.

Good post!!

I just now received an automated phone survey, asking me which one of the four GOP candidates I'd vote for. I pressed Romney.

Arnold to endorse McCain ... surely the debate showed him he’s backing a liberal, lying loser ... well make likes stick together.

jveritas, he may have requested a sit-down, because he is much much shorter than any of the other 3. Sitting down makes him look more their height, except he did hunch over the podiom a lot. That’s a no,no. Everyone else sat up straight.

Tonight McCain said he would not sign the bill if it came to his desk because it won’t come to his desk. Do you all make any sense out of that??

Thanks for the reminder. That was an important point.

MSM doing their usual lauding of McNasty. The audience was not impressed, but that doesn’t matter. He gets a pass.

Not only that, but keep a close eye on the mediaWHORES to go ballistic on his age if he ends up the nominee. The mediapresstitutes literally tore Dole apart because of his age. Expect the same treatment for McPAIN if Hiltery is the nominee. McVAIN won’t know what hit him!!

I will, at your leave. Thank you. I have a dream of a Republican Party that wants to restore the Constitution, rather than be token obstacles to the socialistic tide of time. Socialism Lite won’t make us free again. It will just try to lighten the chains momentarily. As a parent or father no one should accept that obstinate refusal to engage the ruling elite. The freedom of generations futureward are at stake in this and every presidential election.

Also, McCain has lost this debate so badly that he put a lot of risk on his chances of being the nominee, in a matter of 1.5 hour debate he almost destroyed the certainty that he was going to be the nominee.

Sadly, I'm afraid you're wrong. The DBmedia will pick and chose their sound bites, most especially those of McCain accusing Romney of pushing a timetable for Iraq withdrawal, and make it seem the reverse.

The man has served his country with honor, whether you agree with him or not, and he deserves respect.

He deserves respect for his service. That respect doesn't carry over to his policy positions or his nasty freaking disposition.
