MIAMI - Sen. John McCain won a breakthrough triumph in the Florida Republican primary Tuesday night, edging past former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and seizing precious campaign momentum for next week's string of contests across 21 states.
"It shows one thing: I'm the conservative leader who can unite the party," the Arizona senator said in a brief interview with The Associated Press. "It's a very significant boost, but I think we've got a tough week ahead and a lot of states to come."
The victory was worth 57 national convention delegates for McCain, a winner-take-all's haul and the largest single prize to date in the race.
Rudy Giuliani was in third place, his best showing of the campaign but possibly not good enough to warrant continuing.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee trailed but told supporters he would forge on.
California, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, all BIG states, many delegates, and McCain is way ahead.
I believe Arizona is up on Super Tuesday as well.
Well said (I feel the same about Romney, Giuliani and Huckabee).
yea right
how about letting illegals in and not knowing who is in the country, or not wanting taxes, or not wanting more conservative judges etc etc
there is no straight talk from him yet the media cheerleads for him and people are just too lazy to find out his voting record
they seem to forget alot. Its the only explaination how we got here.
McCain is a liberal, the man wanted to run on Kerry’s ticket as VP. Don’t you get it.
McNut is a total liberal. Carbon copy of Hitlery.
But IMO Romney could defeat both Hillary and Obama. Governors beat senators. They always have.
mmmmmmmm
now you cheerlead zogby
you must be really happy Mc Cain won after you recent posts
“It obvious that you are one of those mind numbed robots”
Your posts are certainly mind numbing. This is an intelligent conversation on whether conservatives can support McCain.
California is not winner take all. I’m voting for Romney.
Arizona is up on Super Tuesday - it’s winner take all (I believe) - and McCain will win by a huge margin.
why do you keep changing your username for your pro Mc Cain posts?
McCain 3/2 over Romney. But it isn’t winner take all.
“The McCain win is pretty remarkable considering he was out spent 9 to 1 and was so broke he was carrying his own luggage.”
BS. There is nothing remarkable in a win when you you got the entire pro-amnesty RINO FL establishment behind you, Crist, Menendez. It was enough to give McCain huge majorities from the proabort, pro-amnesty and non-conservative voters. With Huckabee pulling enough conservative voters away from Romney, McCain won.
Here’s what they did, just heard on CNN:
Taped phone calls IN SPANISH by Sen Mel Martinez.
Robocalls about Mitt Romney accusing him of supporting taxpayer funded abortions and other smears.
McCain was spending a ton of money and has plenty of K street lobbyists giving him what he needs for Feb 5.
It’s a two way race - Romney vs McCain, and the better of the candidates is Romney, especially for conservatives.
Yes, I briefly considered voting McCain on a single issue: the war. But the two things you mentioned, plus his stance on the border, plus the fact that he's in favor of joining the International Criminal Court, makes him a non-starter for me even on national security.
I've been in bunker mode since the South Carolina returns came in, and am looking toward 2012. In the meantime, I will be voting for every conservative congress critter I can find -- we're going to need them.
And a narcissistic megalomaniac. You forgot that.
seems we have a spammer who keeps changing their username
why do you do that, I would not even expect that from my kids and they are in Kindergarten/
certainly bizarre or very immature
Never get the chance. McNut will go down in flames and Hitlery will be President. Sorry, BJC will inherit his third term.
How exactly is THAT going to happen?
Good point. I had forgotten that. Here’s hoping for a Romney surge or, at least, a brokered convention with Romney taking it.
