MIAMI - Sen. John McCain won a breakthrough triumph in the Florida Republican primary Tuesday night, edging past former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and seizing precious campaign momentum for next week's string of contests across 21 states.
"It shows one thing: I'm the conservative leader who can unite the party," the Arizona senator said in a brief interview with The Associated Press. "It's a very significant boost, but I think we've got a tough week ahead and a lot of states to come."
The victory was worth 57 national convention delegates for McCain, a winner-take-all's haul and the largest single prize to date in the race.
Rudy Giuliani was in third place, his best showing of the campaign but possibly not good enough to warrant continuing.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee trailed but told supporters he would forge on.
Two disgusting RINOs bit the dust today.
I spit on Mitt and Rudy and give them a well-deserved kick out of contention and out of the race.
Too bad they couldn't all lose....
BTTT!
Just wait 'til November when McCain-Lieberman goes down in flames. ;-)
“But cant vote for him in the middle of a war against the islamo scum that he does not understand. We need a Churchill, not a Chamberlain.”
I’m going to respectfully disagree with you on this one. While I disagree with Rep. Paul on several issues, he does not strike me as a pacifist. He’s simply a libertarian. Libertarians are a quirky bunch; they just like their wars declared first. Actually, if this country were to be attacked, I have no doubt that Rep. Paul would respond with massive force.
“Get ready for at least 4 years of Hillary on your TV. McCain will never win and Hillary will never let Obama win so thats where we are. This sucks completely.”
Repeat after me.. Keating 5... Keating 5..Keating 5
Because that is all we are going to hear for the next 10 months.
Don’t be surprised if the Rockefeller wing set up Huckabee to take votes away from Romney. McCain is definately their man.
Excellent example of a loser. Deciding who you will not vote FOR will assure you will not get anyone from our party in the White House.
You move to where you want to go, not to where you don’t want to go. There are 1191 delegates and mccain now stands at less than 10%!
If you don’t want to go somewhere, steer to a different course. Concentrating on where you don’t want to go most likely will put you there.
How is California leaning?
It's possible.
Oh don’t worry, if Hillary is elected I will be there right there with you raising hell. I am just having a fit right now, that’s all.
Hiltery or OOBBBAAAMMAAA. You haven't a chance. It's done. Your vote will not mean anything.
“That includes having the election laws changed the day of the election allowing Independents to re-register as Republicans, the day of the election.”
Would you elaborate on that please? I had heard a complaint that one precinct had allowed one Independent to take a republican ballot to vote for McCain, but I certainly had not heard about any change in the law in the last few days??? Help?
In your dreams maybe.
“This is clearly and obviously not a conservative party. Huckabee is right...the Reagan revolution is dead.”
Sure looks that way. It has amazed me recently how people I’ve held in high esteem within the conservative movement have apparently abandoned their core principles for squishy liberal ideas which are convenient for them. This is true of politicians, media types, and political talking heads as well.
An example: Tonight I was watching Larry Kudlow’s show and he has Dick Armey and Steven Moore on as guests along with two Democrat strategists. Kudlow started by asking Armey and Moore to explain John McCain’s decision to vote against the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts. Armey went first and ended up sounded like Obama. It got so bad that one of the Dems suggested that Armey change parties because with those ideas he’d fit right in.
Amazing, but not as amazing as Mr. Moore’s response to the same question. Mr. Moore defended McCain by claiming that McCain really was a supply sider but voted against the tax cuts “out of spite” for what happened to him during the 2000 campaign. And that, according to Mr.Moore, is why we SHOULD vote for him, you see. McCain’s really a supply sider. Okay, but he’s also a nasty, vindictive, politician caught up in his reach for power. And that’s why I SHOULD vote for him?!
I must be on Mars. Any conservative martians around here?
We were attacked. The worst one in our nation’s history.
Yep. McCain's the establishment candidate, to be sure.
