Sure looks that way. It has amazed me recently how people I’ve held in high esteem within the conservative movement have apparently abandoned their core principles for squishy liberal ideas which are convenient for them. This is true of politicians, media types, and political talking heads as well.
An example: Tonight I was watching Larry Kudlow’s show and he has Dick Armey and Steven Moore on as guests along with two Democrat strategists. Kudlow started by asking Armey and Moore to explain John McCain’s decision to vote against the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts. Armey went first and ended up sounded like Obama. It got so bad that one of the Dems suggested that Armey change parties because with those ideas he’d fit right in.
Amazing, but not as amazing as Mr. Moore’s response to the same question. Mr. Moore defended McCain by claiming that McCain really was a supply sider but voted against the tax cuts “out of spite” for what happened to him during the 2000 campaign. And that, according to Mr.Moore, is why we SHOULD vote for him, you see. McCain’s really a supply sider. Okay, but he’s also a nasty, vindictive, politician caught up in his reach for power. And that’s why I SHOULD vote for him?!
I must be on Mars. Any conservative martians around here?
It’s a very sad day for the GOP. Maybe we need Hillary to screw things up so that a real conservative has a chance to emerge. That’s why I’m not voting for McCain—I’ll vote for Obama first.
