South Florida voters took to the polls in force Tuesday, setting the stage for what may be a record turnout for a primary election and deciding a make-or-break race for Republican presidential hopefuls. Early reports showed few problems at polling precincts.

Ridiculous, isn’t it? I think part of the problem is that retirees are the ones who have time to be pollworkers. I’m not trying to diss the seasoned citizens, but I’ve noticed that some of the poll workers seem to have lost their mental edge, to put it nicely. I’m not going to bother with the Sun Sentinel, but I will see about filing a complaint with the Florida Election Commission, citing the story as evidence. One illegal vote is too many.
FREEPED!
Here is what I wrote:
I am lodging a complaint over independents being allowed to vote in the primary. This will NOT stand, and in the interim, will create a major battle that will tear the GOP apart before it’s over.
The “fix” will not be allowed to be “in” for the unstable McCain. You can take that to the bank.
bttt
More nightmare stories coming from the state of Flori-DUH!
How hard can it be to run an election properly?!
Flori-DUH!
That tends to sum it up - “Flori-DUH” !
It’s not the Independent who is stupid. It’s the poll workers. The Independent stated that he found it to be wrong. But once forced to choose a ballot, he chose GOP and then voted for McCain.
Let the chad counting begin.
I just pray this this violation of the rules is not happening in any degree there or elsewhere in the State.
Someone should alert the Romney people if they have any contacts.
That number doesn’t work. You get a live person at SOS who will transfer you to elections. Voter fraud is option 3. When you choose that, it says you can’t be transferred.
Is this the official thread?
Oh no ... .
My former business partner, huge lib, registered as a Republican just to vote in the primaries.
Broward Election HQ needs to get on the horn and IMMEDIATELY let all their poll workers that independents are NOT ALLOWED to vote on party ballots. I mean how STUPID (or devious) are those poll workers?
Once AGAIN, Broward County is screwing up yet another election.
I wouldn’t say the Independent guy is stupid, but he’s certainly dishonest. A person with integrity would have left the candidate section blank and just voted the amendment.
That strikes me as odd -- I've never seen separate lines for Republicans and Democrats. Where I voted there was just one line (and it was a long one, at 7 a.m., no less) and there was no way to tell who was voting in which primary. Only the poll workers would know.
no, someone will start the “official Florida election returns live thread” later. This might be the thread to post problems with voting.
Drudge has it now.

Son of a gun!
Betch he’ll vote for McCain.
Ask the person who they voted for.
I have no problem with a person re-registering prior to official deadlines. I’ve got a huge problem with an independent showing up today and getting a ballot for either party.
Damn poll worker idiots.
At our precinct, as in all our city precincts, there are separate books/rolls for Dems and Republicans during a primary.
Also, each table is divided into alphabetical lines, i.e. A-G, H-M, etc.
You stand in the appropriate line, the poll worker checks your voter ID and photo ID, you sign the book, and then they activate the card (electronic voting) with the right issues (in other words my screen only showed Republican candidates, not Democratic candidates.)
