I wouldn’t say the Independent guy is stupid, but he’s certainly dishonest. A person with integrity would have left the candidate section blank and just voted the amendment.

I wouldn’t say that. The poll worker told him that he HAD to choose. He obeyed the order.
I’d have asked for two ballots...
