AUGUSTA, Maine—Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul said Monday he is hoping for "a grand showing" in this weekend's Maine Republican caucuses.

Stopping at the State House on a brief visit to the state, Paul was enthusiastically cheered by supporters throughout a rally that drew more than 150 people.

Sounding his themes of less government and more freedom, the Texas congressman said he is optimistic about many things happening in the country, but pessimistic about its leadership.

His foreign policy positions are suicidal.

I would say at best it's misguided and anachronistic. But on some of his foreign policy, he's right. You do oppose giving tin pot dictators foreign aid and arms sales and meddling in their affairs, right?

We have seen the barbarians. And they are us.

Us being the socialists of course. Let me know how this Ponzi scheme of excessive taxation, entitlement programs, and never ending military excursions will work for our grandchildren.

No other candidate even brings this up. That’s the most damning thing about our party! Honestly, we’re the Democrat party as of 30-40 years ago. And the Democrat party has moved just right to the Communist Party’s Platform.

And that scares the bejeezus out of me more than Al Qaeda.

Other than a tiny handful of states that the major candidates don't give a rip about, Paul is not going to get any higher than 10% of the vote, period. He's a fringe candidate, and is probably going to get shut out of further Republican debates.

Yes, he has people willing to toss money at him, but those folks seem to like beating a dead horse just to attempt to make a point. The guy had better poll numbers than Duncan Hunter, but just as much chance of getting the nomination. He's a "message" candidate, nothing else.

In all fairness, he at least is sticking it through to the end. I do feel gypped that Thompson pulled out after S.C. I had sent him $$$ the last couple of times he asked too.

If enough disgust in the candidates continues to grow (I mean honestly, McCain?, Romney?, Rudy?, Huckabee? no thanks!), maybe he will be a beacon of what conservatives should be, like Reagan at the 1976 convention.

Typical snob elitist thinking. No wonder your buddies in the GOP are circling the drain. Why not abolish the electoral college as well? Who needs pesky states like ND, NH, KS, right?

Paul is not going to get any higher than 10% of the vote, period

He got 14% in NV and technically he won the Louisiana caucus as well. He may win Maine's caucuses this weekend!

He's a fringe candidate, and is probably going to get shut out of further Republican debates.

How is he going to get shut out when Rudy and Huckabee are the next that will drop out?

Your question is rhetorical & your point is taken with all but "military excursions."

They want to behead you if you do not wrap your women up in blue burlap. We live in the wide world & could not exist apart from the global economy for two weeks. If we do not assert our rights and promote our vision, "our grandchildren" will be kneeling to Mecca and banging their heads on the ground 5 times a day.

Why would I eat crow?

How many primaries has he won? How many will he win?

The never ending military excursions actually has little to do with Iraq and Afghanistan if you think about it.

How long has it been since WW 2?
How long has it been since the Korean War?

Why do we run a military welfare state in so many countries? Our “allies” can expect our help, but they should pay for their own defense.

If you apply the same principles we learned about welfare domestically to those abroad, I think the same lessons will be had.

It’s about time the rest of the world pays up. They hate our guts because of our success in the world, take advantage of us, and then we subsidize them while (in many cases) we cannot compete with them on an equal footing in trade.

It’s madness.

We American’s love being lied to far too much

I was just saying this very thing to someone today. I'm discovering that most people facing unpleasant truth would rather hear fables.

He won in Louisiana until the RINO party hacks there filed a "fusion" slate and stacked the deck against him, knocking Paul down to 2nd place. He'll win some Super Tuesday states - Rudy is history after tomorrow and Huckabee can only compete in the Bible Belt. Paul is polling well here in WI and in IL and MN, and he can compete with Romney in states such as CA and NY.

Paul is in the race until the convention where it'll be brokered and he'll have a seat at the table to wield influence. So unfortunately you're stuck with him.

Paul did not win in Louisiana and he won’t win a single Super Tuesday state.

And I don’t really care if he stays in the race until the convention. Kucinich also stayed in the race in 2004 until the Dem convention and just like his Democrat counterpart, Paul will not have a seat at the table and won’t wield any influence whatsoever.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

If Huck drops out, his delegates from Iowa can go to other candidates.
