Romney praises Bush, bashes Washington
Reuters ^ | Jan. 26, 2008 | Jason Szep

Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney often casts himself as an agent of change who would fix a "broken Washington" but he spares an obvious target -- President George W. Bush.

"I salute the fact the president has kept us safe these past six years," he told a rally on Saturday in Florida, whose primary on Tuesday is the next test in the most wide open race for the Republican presidential nomination in 50 years.

A day earlier, speaking to reporters, he was even kinder to the unpopular president, saying that while he differed with Bush at times he still deeply respects him.

I remember when McPain wanted to invade Afghanistan with 250,000 troops: ‘Bootch on the ground’.

Yep. What Bush and Rumsfeld did in Afghanistan and Iraq was brilliant. And even though they were slow to adapt (by modern TV show standards) to the changing situation in Iraq, adapt they did, with amazing results.

I have no respect for those who are quick to criticize the military in Iraq. They have consistently done an unbelievable job there, and the way they have changed ROE and tactics to meet the challenges is something that will be studied in military history for generations.

I applaud Mitt’s loyalty AND strategery.

Mitt has analyzed his internal polling data; he knows full well that the President is neither unpopular with the base (Gallup’s recent poll put the President’s JA rating among Republicans at 76%, higher than Reagan’s at a similar point in his presidency) nor personally unpopular with the majority of Americans (the BattleGround Poll puts the President’s personal approval rating at approximately 60%).

This ‘unpopular’ montra is MSM/DNC created and perpetuated.

The problem of illegal immigration have been going on for decades and to blame it on President Bush is a sign of Bush hatred, total stupidity, or both.

Very smart from Romney because President Bush is the most popular person among the Republican base, vastly more popular than any of the Republican presidential candidates.

‘The problem of illegal immigration have been going on for decades and to blame it on President Bush is a sign of Bush hatred, total stupidity, or both.”

Bravo! . . . I would add that no contemporary president has done more to address the ENTIRETY of the illegal immigration problem than President Bush (43), to include border enforcement. [By the end of his term, the 800 miles of border fence will be complete and the size of the Border Patrol will have doubled.]

. . . classic misdirection; it makes me think that you must be a Ron Paul supporter — of course, authentic libertarians advocate OPEN BORDERS!

His failure on the border is his greatest mistake, so far. His attempt to destroy the sovereignty of the US thru the L.O.S.T., and his sponsorship of the North American Union are his greatest treacheries against the citizens of the US. Those two acts of commission will, or at least should be, remembered forever.

I agree 100%. President Bush has the courage to attack problems neglected by Presidents before.

classic misdirection

A video of Mitt bashing Reagan and Bush puts the lie to his "loyalty".

In the thirty years ending in 1986, one million illegals had crossed the border. That’s 33,000 per year.

Since 2000, there have been 1 to 3.5 million coming across every year.

No difference here huh?
