Great News to Report

OK folks, as of 1730 hours yesterday, Carhartt Inc, the worlds leading maker of durable outdoor and work clothing has generously donated...ready for this???

750 pairs of ECWCS (Extreme Cold Weather Clothing System) thermal underwear and (this is really good),

5,000, yes thats five THOUSAND pairs of winter wool socks to the 2-503ABN Infantry Regimen 173DABN Brigade (Sep).

So I'd like to ask that everyone go out and buy something with the Carhartt label. It doesn't have to be much; it's not a donation, it's a personal purchase for you, or your husband, or son, or wife, or whomever. I just want to show Carhartt how much we appreciate this very generous offer.

If you'd like to help Soldiers Angels at the same time, you can click this link and go to BassProShops and a portion of the sale goes to Soldiers Angels.

TankerBabe told me about this last night at WR. Found a store nearby. Definitely going to have a look at their stuff within the next few days. Prices I saw on their website - surprisingly inexpensive.

I have been told that there is a program you can download or install that will let you fill out and print customs forms on your home computer/printer setup. I have filled out a couple of forms when I have have shipped to the troops, but if I had multiple forms like 50 or so I would definitely look into getting such a program.

Thanks for posting this good news and the ping.

Carhartt make some of the most durable and wearable work clothing.

Our younger son is in the wine industry. In spite of the gentile PR images, the wine industry at the base level is tough, dirty and potentially dangerous work.

Carhartt clothing is the only clothing that holds up to the constant abuse in wine making from nature, spills and other events from the harvest to barreling and the actions after that.

Carhartt clothing often end up with nice cab stains for each season for their long lifetime. They hold up and last for more than one season. Making wine is very hard on clothing and boots. The boot makers who supposedly have lifetime warranties, don’t honor that warranty for boots used in wine making. Name brand jeans seldom last a season in the wine trenches, and the Carhartt pants just keep going on.

We’ve been buying Carhartt products for years! First at the old Quality Farm And Fleet and now at the Tractor supply.

My husband’s a plumber and he works out in the coldest of temps. Carhartt’s the best! Their coats and and overalls keep you warm. He just bought a new pair of lined blue jeans last week. You can’t beat Carhartt.

Carhartt = Warm clothes warm hearts!

Good for Carhart

Am I the only one wondering why the US ARMY is not *issuing* cold weather gear to the troops?

Sounds like someone (like say, the CO, XO) should be replaced for failing to take care of their troops.

Awesome! I don’t own any Carhart stuff now, but they were my best friends during my tours at northern tier SAC bases.

Dang! Those socks are all going to Afghanistan?

Can't we get some of those here in Iraq? A bunch of them? To my base?

I mean, it's cold here, too!

Great! Unfortunately, all I wear is Carhardt, so my purchase thereof is fairly normal anyway.

If anybody goes to buy insulated bibs (which are awesome, btw), be sure to get the ones that have zippers all the way up the legs...

bless you guys! (concretebob and Tankerbabe)

I JUST had an email from my grandson - 2nd/503rd/ 173rd - BATTLE CO - in the Korengal Valley in the Kunar - in the bitter cold of the mountains. It is hellaciously cold - they have no power, no heat, no hot food but MRE’s (totally inadequate in that cold. - plenty of PKM and mortar fire.

They didn’t used to keep the troops there in the mountains because the weather is inhumanly cold. Several hundred locals have already died due to the cold there - and they have lost thousands of their animals,

Were it not for people like you sending food, warm clothing, etc - they would be in even worse straights,

In looking at one of their patrol photos taken this month, it looks like they have the same boots they had in summer???They also don’t have the heavy jackets we’d think they’d have - They’re wearing Gore Tex - but it doesn’t look all that warm for the conditions - minus 30 wind chill the other day,-

I just sent another box of WigWam socks - they love those =and baklavas today and am going to order some Merino Wool liner socks . talked with a gal at the company (REI) and she said they wick the moisture away from the foot, helping to keep them dry and warm.

http://www.rei.com/product/737998?vcat=REI_SEARCH I don't know if any of the CARHART gear is going to BATTLE Co out in the Korengal or not?

Well, from their website, it appears they’re opening production in Mexico. At least it’s not China.

While my husband was in A’Stan, he was given what is known as an “any Soldier” box. In it were many items including a Hanauma Whistler Brown Hoodie. I’ve always wondered how one could thank an anonymous giver. So, if they were a Freeper and they read this THANK YOU! It kept him warm both outside and in. (and it’s very comfy. . . trust me I know!)

Carhartt to source $40 mn of textiles from India

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
Posted online: Monday, May 16, 2005 at 1642 hours IST
Updated: Monday, May 16, 2005 at 1701 hours IST

NEW DELHI, MAY 16: Workmen clothing company, Carhartt, which has till now sourced only from US and Europe, has set its eyes on India and could buy 40 million dollars worth of fabric and garments from manufacturers here.
Top officials of the company are currently visiting India to look for suppliers. The firms on their radar are Arvind, JCT, Asmiha, Alok Industries and Maral Overseas.

Apart from India, the team from Carhartt will also visit China and Taiwan.

“Overall Carhartt team is looking for 14 to 15 items. Some of these could be sourced from India and the rest of the orders could flow to China and Taiwan,” Prashant Agarwal, manager at consultancy firm KSA Technopak, told PTI.

Carhartt has appointed KSA for advice while exploring sourcing opportunities in India.

He said the US-based company could start by sourcing 2.0 lakh metres of fabric from India and could scale it to 20 lakh metres per annum.

Carhartt is interested in buying denim and knitted items from India. The company is also looking for turnkey garment suppliers.

Carhartt, which has not sourced from Asia earlier, is now looking at the option in view of phasing out of quotas in the world textile trade.

Workwear maker Carhartt has announced plans to shut manufacturing plants in Sebree and Morehead in the state of Kentucky, and will also axe 100 workers from its base in Glasgow, also in Kentucky.

Work wear and sportswear maker Carhartt is to shut its Dover, Tennessee, sewing plant after increasing imports affected its business.

Carhartt what a great Indian company.

is this a cold weather unit?

In the mountains of the infamous Hindu Kush - at least, My grandson' Unit - BATTLE Company of the 2nd/503rd, 173rd AIRBORNE... It's in the northeast Province of Kunar, up against the Paki border. My grandson said the other day : "negative 30 with wind chill factor" and they are on mountainside perch they literally pickaxed out of the mountainside.

They have no power, no heat, no hot meals - only the MRE's...out on patrol on goat paths, hills crawling with Taliban...Korengal Valley - aka "Taliban Central" and "The Most Dangerous Place on Earth"

You can see what they are facing - fighting wise - from video clips on the 173rds home web base and a mag. article - that were done in warmer weather this fall at

http://www.setaf.army.mil/

video clips: click on "Go behind the front lines in Afghanistan"

for mag article click on " Into the Valley of Death"

(at the time this was done, they had been through some 450 firefights - now that has more than tripled... Add to the above, one of the bitterest winter ranges in the world - and picture yourself without a warm hut to get into - without power, with MRE's day in day out....You are in that cold 24/7 - cold that, this winter, has already caused the lives of some 400 locals and thousands of their livestock animals.

Cold? Bet your bippi.

Military socks are not as warm or comfortable as many civilian socks, like WigWam - with Merino wool and knitting patterns that keep them from bunching up =

Think of what you would need to even attempt to keep warm - were it not for the wonderful Americans who have so generously given and who have organized drives and packed and sent clothing and food -

and handwarmers - This is one they say really works the best -

http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/campmor/search/main.jsp?command=text&ip_text=solid+fuel+sticks+ℑ.x=6ℑ.y=5

I just sent 3 warmers and 5 boxes of fuel sticks = and will send more when my Soc Sec comes ;o)

Food is crucial. They need protein for energy and warmth (They are humping miles of mountain trails every day) - they like the peanut butter power bars, jars of peanut butter (plastic)and crackers, nuts, jerky, (NO PORK ALLOWED IN COUNTRY), dried fruit, vitamins, gum (Helps keep the ears from popping when the mortars fly) drink packets (coffee, cocoa,) canned hash, tuna, (They are no where near a PX) -

just picture yourself getting dropped off on the side of a mountain in the high Rockies, YOu're in the open, except for when you can crawl into what passes for a hut that you have managed to cobble together from rocks and wood - for 15 months - and there are crazy mountain men with guns and rockets that don't want you there...)

Cold? the coldest.

Hungry. Oh yes.

Feel like you're in Hell?

God bless the American people who are not forgetting our troops -= God give the politicians that are fighting against them - hell.

The Army does issue cold weather gear and trust me this is not the fault of the CO/XO. If I had thought for even a moment that was the case I would still have done what needs to be done for the Soldiers but would have been raising cane in Washington. Bottom line - it’s a funding “issue” - if you know what I mean.
