He supported the assault weapon ban in Mass., he supported the renewal of the federal law in 2004. But since it wasn't renewed he would not support any future ban and would not sign it as president...

Well Romney has a lot of company with dems and pubs on assault weapons ban. He said he is for individuals rights to own guns - just not assault weapons. Anyway their position on assault weapons ban is like number 999 on my list.
