Every third party I have been involved with (Constitution, Libertarian, Conservative of NY, etc.) always attract flakes and are basically glorified role playing games a la Dungeons and Dragons.

Actually, there’s a fair amount of those even in the major parties among the hard-core supporters.
I think what makes the minor parties more fringe-oriented is just the relative absence of less-ideological people.

You’re right about that. I hooked up with NY conservative when Jim Buckley was running for senate. Dungeons and dragons is an excellent analogy.

Fix the family from within.
Third party advocates fall into two general categories: Commie Rat Party loyals who hope to drain of Republican Party numbers - and egotists with a misplaced idea of their empirical wisdom and importance

Every third party I have been involved with (Constitution, Libertarian, Conservative of NY, etc.) always attract flakes and are basically glorified role playing games a la Dungeons and Dragons. You're right. And I think the reason is because normal people are never overtly political, regardless of affiliation. Those who gravitate toward fringe movements are "fringe" people; i.e., those who are never quite comfortable in their own skin, much less in the company of others. It is a rather human tendency to be forgiving of the idiosyncrasies of others. Each little difference is what makes us unique. My experiences with "movement" people, even those with whom I shared a veritable piñata full of ideological simpatico have been ones which always caused me to withdraw rather than advance, as their adherents are uniformly critical and dismissive of even the slightest perceived deviation from their ideological canon. Besides which, they frequently have no damned sense of humor, which I personally find intolerable, and that's my ideological canon.

So, you've either watched or attended one of their conventions too, I see. That has to be one of the best descriptions of the third parties that I've ever read. Thanks for the chuckle.
