CLEARWATER - The 75-year-old grandmother who was arrested Thursday at a McDonald's on a charge of disorderly conduct gave an officer lip, according to a police report. Jean Merola swore at the officer and said, "You are an evil man. Your wife is going to divorce you. Your kids probably hate you too. You are going to hell," according to the report.
Officer Matthew Parco was behind Merola in line and had received his drink; he asked her to move up so he could get around her but she didn't respond. Parco spent about 20 minutes asking Merola to move the car before she was arrested.

The current trend in our country is:
Talk back to Mom, she smacks you and she gets arrested for abuse.
Talk back to a Cop, he Tases you, arrests you and charges you with verbal assault, resisting arrest, obstructing a police officer, disorderly conduct and anything else he can think of so something will stick and you end up spending 6 months winding your way through the judicial system.
She’s not demented. She has all her marbles. Pray that you keep yours. I’m going on 61 and wondering about myself....:)
“It was the drive-through. My assumptions were wrong.”
Not really, all he had to do was pull around her. Instead he decided to harass her for illegal parking when she parked where MD asked her too.
She was blocking the drive-thru. Made a special order, which takes time. The employee asked her to move and her food would be brought to her. She refused. Damn rude at any age if you ask me.
I thought fast food was supposed to be..... FAST?
Fries without salt, how hard is that?
“Her car was blocking his car in.”
No it wasn’t. The Mayor said he approached her for illegal parking and not for blocking the drive thru. This driv thru is open on the right side. Its not one that has a wall or curb on both sides.
a cop can still arrest you on private property. the only thing he cant give tickets for or arrest you on are traffic tickets. atleast thats how it is in dallas.
There you go, stirring up the “Free Mumia” crowd again...
:p
“Obstructing the flow of traffic.”
Its a parking lot and there aint no traffic in a parking lot. She was parked where they asked her to park. She has a right to wait for the product she had already paid for to be delivered.
Yeah, and don’t confuse a lawful and orderly society with a police state.
What a witch.
Bring back the Salem witch trials!... Crazy old hag would definitely have been burned at the stake back in the day.
“And oh yeah—failure to follow police instructions IS an arrestable offense.”
Only if the officer issues a legal command. It wasn’t legal and the property owners had told her to move ahead.
Funny how old people seem to always lose their rights and are always idiots and battleaxes that need a good tasering.
I guess they dont train cops simply to step around some stubborn citizen.
Let's see if we can spot the word that you must have missed:
Parco spent about 20 minutes asking Merola to move the car before she was arrested.Sounds like perhaps the "stubbord citizen" was blocking a DRIVE-THRU and obstructing traffic (for 20 minutes).I guess they dont train cops simply to step around some stubborn citizen.
(Of course that's one reason I NEVER go through the drive-thru.)
I would “love, love, love” to see your opinion while trapped behind her for 20 minutes in a drive-thru line.
Give me a brake!! This officer better grow a thicker skin when dealing with the public. Sheesh!!
MD told her to park there. Or are you gonna pull out your game warden argument on this thread too.
Just taze the ole lady and stop her heart. Be done with it already.

Have people lost the use of their legs? I’m serious. Was the officer and the driver behind him incapable of getting out of their vehicles and walking INSIDE the McDonalds or whatever it was, and if so urgently hungry, ordering their food inside the establishment? Just amazing to me how little THINKING people do.
I would also point out that a Google statellite capture of the McDonald's in question reveals a standard McDonald's floorplan with a drivethru path that can clearly more than accomodate two vehicles side by side, simply by comparing its breadth to the width of the cars in the capture and the width of nearby parking spaces.
She was driving a sedan and he was driving a police cruiser or possibly an SUV.
It is obvious from looking at the satellite capture that she must have been in the center of the drivethru path, and had not pulled to the side of the path to allow other cars to pass abreast of her.
Were they supposed to block the drive-thru?
Great. May I add that the “current trend in our country” is for people to have knee-jerk reactions regarding what the current trend in the country actually is?
