He was about 6 years old when in Midland, Texas. I’ve seen pictures of the house. Don’t have the dates but it was before his father was vice-president. When young his father did something in Midland. So, George was raised for some years when young in Texas. He calls Midland, Texas his real home. He worked in the oil industry - Harkin Oil I think, ran or was part owner of the Texas Rangers, lived in Dallas during that time, ran for governor, beat Ann Richards and served for two terms.

If you knew who he really was, you would realize that he never took to the Eastern elites although he attended Yale. He has always claimed Texas as home and will return there after leaving Washington. He is a Texan - not an Eastern elite. If he had been an Eastern elite - there would not have been all the “dumb” jokes you know. And maybe you are not aware of how mistreated he was by the Kennedy’s in Washington.

Surely you noticed how they looked down upon ol’ George. That means he was a Texan.

The Huckster’s comments are classless

Ditto that, especially considering it looks like the triggering issue was Fred's very sick mother. You would think that a Baptist preacher would have more compassion and a Christian attitude, but we are really seeing his true colors.

Mitt only respects Mitt and the hierarchy in Salt Lake City

It is better to keep ones mouth shut and let others think you are stupid, than to open it and remove all doubt.

Dude, I was talking about George H.W. Bush. A.K.A. Bush Senior. A.K.A. Bush 41.

You can't get more Yankee than George H.W. Bush.

The reason I brought him and his upbringing up is because you called him as a good president in another post further up on his thread.

ROMNEY / BUSH 2008 !!!

God forbid. I can't wait for George "the Incompetent' to leave office and it be the end of the Bush line in the oval office. Obviously, I detest the idea of any Clinton occupying the white house as well.

Enough of the Bushes and Clintons! Enough!!!

Amen. We have a war on Islamofascists (not the religion of Peace, Mr Bush!)but the border stays wide open. It*s good for business, you see. Mitt will be John F Kerry redux. I remember his dad.

Ok - so we lose one vote.

Maybe we will find some other people to fight this battle with us. We need fighters. If you want to retire - ok.

Enjoy your sleepless nights as you worry about whose hands America is in. Enjoy your feeling of freedom from assault on your “personal freedom” as there will be no surveillance and protection from terrorist activity.

And your alternative action is?

And what does it do to promote conservatism? Any gains?

First, let’s define conservatism: limited government.

With the exception of foreign policy (admittedly a huge issue), I can’t find a single thing with which to disagree with Ron Paul. He’s more faithful to the Declaration and the Constitution than any other candidate remaining.

Not only that, his monetary policies are outstanding. We seriously need sanity and self control in these days. Have you watched the markets lately?

The GOP is bent on becoming the squishy moderate party. I’m not interested in big government. I expect Paul to go third party eventually, and I will too.

He is a Texan - not an Eastern elite

What about the California governor (R) elite? What about the Texan elite, Perot? Nice guy, right? I could go on and on throughout the country with 'elitist'. Do you consider Rudy 'elitist'? Bloomberg is - who changed from D to R to run on Rudy's coattails after all the hard work was done.

Your hang up is with the north - the NE cannot claim title to 'elitist'. It's your mindset but not reality. Aside from that, IMO, elitist don't have the fire in the belly that produces a roll up their sleeve attitude. Mostly talk w/little action. And, I agree, Bush is not an elistist. His image is not his priority. An elitist runs on his image not on his accomplishments.
