Governor Mitt Romney On Fred Thompson Withdrawing His Candidacy
Allow me to sum up this statement from Mitt Romney for everyone:
“Please, please, pleeeease vote for me, FredHeads!”
Thank you for that. I feel a little victory whenever there is a nice comment about my President.
I love him and if he ran again, I know where my vote would go. I’ve heard the same from many here. That speaks a lot for his leadership - especially in this gaggle of candidates.
Did Mitt have the same kind of response when Duncan Hunter withdrew his candidacy this weekend? I haven’t seen it...
Your regional bigotry is blinding you. Illegal immigration has become a huge problem in big Eastern cities, which is why Romney's record on the issue is very consistent and very good. People in places like Virignia, Massachusetts and New Jersey are just as upset about immigration as are people in Mississippi, even more so.
Incidentally, cut the regional bias crap. Last time I checked, this site frowns on prejudice.
Soooo? Isn’t that what they should all be doing rather than saying “if it makes it easier for me to win the South”?
Why is asking people for their vote in a gracious way bad?
Not everyone in the East and California is anti-religion, politically correct, or buying into Algore hysteria.
Hence opposing a politician just because he comes from those places is just as irrational as assuming a young black man must be a criminal just because young black men on average have high rates of criminality.
Bigotry of any sort, be it regional or racial, is ugly.
Judging a man by where he is from is just as bad as judging a man by the color of his skin.
...would somehow vote for a true conservative to run their state?
Well, Reagan carried Massachusetts in 1980 and ‘84 and if my memory serves me correctly, he was a true conservative...
We're screwed.
I think we need to focus on the GOP leadership, otherwise we'll end up with the same type of candidates in the future - conservatives need not apply.
I really think there’s no fear in Romney picking a questionable candidate. I think he’s going to go for a die-hard conservative and most likely a Southern Evangelical to satisfy those who are skiddish about the “scary Mormon.” DeMint joined Romney’s campaign a long time ago and is one of his key advisors. I see a Romney/DeMint ticket if he gets the nomination.
Exactly what I was saying. They worked together as a team AGAINST US. You never heard them bitching on their websites about what their leaders did not do.
We tear our people down because we are not pleased 100% of the time at 100% of their actions. Even though each are individual men who have their own beliefs and won the election and of course will promote their own beliefs. We do not accept that - it has to be our way or “NO S U P P O R T”. Whooptedo.
So, our leader will always have no support - none from his party, none from the voters, none from the congress. The congress people are too busy catering to the whims of the democrats and will sell our leader out any number of times.
Pretty dismal.
Yet the conservatives will always dream that the populace will suddenly wake up and search out a true conservative, forego all of their government-paid insurance, medicine, social security, education (or their access to the U.S. Treasury for their personal use) and stand up to go back in time 100 years and start over.
Sure they will.
And they feel that is a better option than being willing to support the most conservative man they can get elected, help him get as much done as possible and move on to the next most conservative man possible and do the same. All the while fighting the liberals every day instead of their elected leaders.
It is beginning to look like it isn’t it.
Sorry, but the more I read, the more I don’t like. He’s a flip-flopping, say anything to get elected, RINO.
Fred for the next president of the NRA
Not if people here bashing Romney would apply the same standards to Reagain.
Let's not forget some of the leftist compromises Reagan did:
1) Raised fica taxes in 1982
2) Raised income taxes in 1986
3) Signed Amnesty into law in 1986.
4) Appointed Justices Sandra Day O'Connor and Anthony Kennedy.
5) Cut and run in Lebanon after one terrorist attack.
6) Appeased Iranian terrorists with an amrs deal.
Don't get me wrong. I love Reagan. He was a great president. But he was by no means without his flaws, and he was by no means a consistent conservative. He compromised with Dems because that's what politics requires.
I didn’t see Mitt ask for anyone’s vote in that statement. Not directly.
Well, it’s going to be a bumpy ride for awhile at FR, as I skim the threads today.
Lots of people swearing to stay home instead of voting, although a few claim now they will vote for Hillary.
Many people swearing they are no longer Republicans.
Some folks trying to rally the demoralized troops into Romney’s camp, even though Romney has warranted a “truthfile” link at the top of the FR page, like a “wanted” poster at the US Post Office.
Some are hoping that Ron Paul will run third party, or even Michael Bloomberg.
The only two candidates who had significant support at FR and the blessing of the owner are now gone. All the remaining candidates have been thoroughly trashed here for nearly a year.
What a mess.
FYI, George HW Bush is from the East (Connecticut).
Well, he was no Cal Coolidge, but you’re correct, politics is politics
