Fox News ^

Carl Cameron says it'll become offical sometime later this week.

Oh well, we're doomed. Let's hope it'll be minimal damage until 2012.

It’s nice to see that some LOGICAL conservatives are realizing that Romney is the only viable candidate who will be able to NAIL Hitlery or Mocha Obama in the Dem/Repub Debates.

I’m PRO-CHOICE and I don’t like Romney’s current position on abortion at all, but he’s got so many overriding attributes that I feel are more important in the grand scheme of things (Strong on defense, understands business & free markets, optimistic, etc).

Be realistic, people! You can’t get everything in one candidate. Prioritize what is important to you and make your choice based on that. If your only issue is Mitt’s change of heart on abortion, I feel sorry for you.

Since Duncan Hunter and Fred Thompson have dropped out of the race, the only reason for continuing to bash Romney on this forum is to support McCain, his closest rival.

So, if you and the other Romney bashers on this forum support McCain, why not say so?

Otherwise, how are we to prevent a Dem presidential victory in November? And, btw, there are Congressional and Senatorial races to think of.

It’s time to think about the good of the Nation and not just personal pet peeves.

This is truly heartbreaking news... I truly believe we may be seeing the end of a Conservative GOP. How sad for us, and for the nation as a whole!

Prayers for the entire Thompson family as Fred is at his mother’s hospital bedside right now...

Fred, please keep speaking out, writing, whatever... Our country needs a statesman such as yourself to dispell the myths and speak the truth...

Yep, I think the timing was off for Fred. Fred is a fine man, and I wish him the best. I’m sure Fred will be fine, as he wasn’t in it for the sake of power or ambition, and has a life beyond all this. It’s our nation I’m worried about.

Yes. He'll be fine. Like you, I don't think the nation will fare as well. We still have no uniter in the race. Romney [the one being pushed here as the lessor evil] will not be able to unite the base and his negatives in the national polls are too high for him to win the general by pulling crossover vote. And, of course, the nomination could still go to one of the others.

Without a brokered convention and the choosing of a nominee other than one of the candidates left in the race, we are in a lot of trouble. I don't hold out much hope of that, so I fear we just lost the White House in 08 and with it, judge appointments, the presidential veto, the war on terror, right to life issues, 2nd amendment issues, tax and spending limitation, and so much more.

I can't believe we are in this position going into an election against Hillary Clinton, whom we would have been able to beat...with an energized base and a unified GOP, neither of which we will have.

“C’mon now, don’t be a stubborn fool and shoot yourself in the foot!

I can’t believe all these stubborn posters who think they’ll accomplish something with a protest vote or by not voting Republican at all.”

Or,I could vote for whatever spare wins the Republican nomination(who will lose the election anyway).

If he happens to win the general election, I could live four years with a president I don’t want, and the best I could hope for is for him to be re-elected for another four years, because he would automatically be the Republican nominee. If we had a moderate Republican for eight years, a Democrat would most certainly be elected to replace him.

No, thanks. I’ll pass on 4 or 8 or 12 years under destructive regimes. We got here by compromising on our beliefs.

Never again. Take our party back.

Fred has to be thinking of his daughter that died right now too in addition to his sick mom. He knows where family priorities lie, or at least should lie.

It all factored into his decision, as well as the SC outcomes of course.

That’s nice but even a VP candidate has to campaign and show up for debates.

We will never abandon our Iraqi allies to the terrorists so just get use to it.

Hello, the Iraq Parliament voted for Sharia Law back in 2005. That tells me they're not interested in democracy and want to run their own country. They're a sovereign nation now. We did our jobs. You want to stay there until the end of time fighting what is now essentially a police action and trying to pick off terrorists at random, go for it. Hope you don't have kids at draft age, because there will be a draft if the war continues.

All that crap Ron Paul spews about how our founding fathers not wanting to fight our battles in the enemy’s neighborhood is historically and histerically inaccurate as the first war we fought as an independent nation was against arab terrorists (1790-1825) and Jefferson built our Navy for just that purpose.

And Paul voted to go after the terrorists initially too. He would in fact leave behind a small contingency of special-op forces to go after bin Laden and the Taliban. He would also stop enforcing UN resolutions and intervention in ME nations that is fueling terrorism.

I agree with you 100 per cent. We have to hope that Romney can win in Florida and leave McCain and Huckabee in the dust.

I will not vote for McCain or Huckabee ever!

“I don’t think Ron Paul stands a chance, but if he were somehow elected, I think the responsibilities of the office would dawn on him, and he’d move more carefully than he talks.

Also, Congress would keep him in line.”

Congress would be in need of a replacement as well.
