Posted on 01/21/2008 8:13:53 AM PST by PurpleMan

Just heard on Laura Ingram (quoting Carl Cameron of FoxNews) that Thompson will drop out tomorrow.

Bad results, ill mother....

Hillary will win in November.

If Fred drops out, you are correct!

It will also mean the end of my interest and involvement in this next election.

I won't work for losers!

And all of them will lose against the eventual Dem candidate, with the exception of Fred.

And then she started talking about how Mitt tried to hook her up with a friend of his. UGH. I thought I was listening to a portion of The View, NOT Laura Ingraham.

This is all going to end very badly for conservatives.

Yes, I’ve noticed it...even Brit Hume said Fred had “gone to see his mother” after SC.

No mention of his mother being in the hospital.

Not to you particularly, I think you were on the bottom of the thread at the time.

You do bring a good point that Romney is about to get crushed in the Bible Belt. He needs to drop out.

I am also happy to note that Huck is apparently starting a massive slide, especially in Florida (polling behind Fred, or close to it) so he won’t do well, either. He needs to drop out, as well.

“So even with Rush and Levin beating the hell out of McCain, and God knows FreeRepublic is a huge conservative web site and few Freepers can stomach McCain...it seems that these so-called “new media” hurt MCCain a whit. The man is WINNING the Republican primary and I’m bitter.”

McCain has won in two states where Independents and Democrats could vote for him. He’s failed to get a majority of registered Republicans in any state so far.

Fred was a big disappointment. Even though Fredheads at FP assured us that his summer of procrastination was a brilliant strategy only a few could comprehend, it seems it was just ordinary indecisiveness and poor organization. I hoped Fred would win, but never saw his flouncing around as anything but a lack of organization.

Rush and the others are very influential, but they tried to remain somewhat neutral for too long. And have little or no influence on Independents who bounce between parties, let along mischief making Dems. who cross over in states where they can. I believe they’ll have real influence in Florida and other states where only registered Republicans can vote in Republican primaries.

As much as some dislike Romney at FP, he is closest to Fred on the issues. He and Fred have been my co-favorites from the first, and now I hope the others falter and Romney can emerge to defeat McCain. I believe Romney would govern as a conservative. McCain would be a bigger disaster than Jorge has been on all too many issues.

If Thompson stays in, at this point it will probably only be to help his buddy McCain by taking votes away from Romney.

It would be one thing if she remained a bit objective, but when her voice got all girly and shrill when talking about Mitt- just like pre teen girls giggling over boys, she lost a ton of credulity in my mind. Just waiting for Ann and Michelle to follow suit.

With Laura, Ann and Michelle slowly falling into the stereotypes regarding women voters- the stereotypes they've been decrying for years- and Hillary's tears, where the hell is a real woman to go? Just damn.

Correct, I would be sorely dissapointed if Fred dropped out, as the race has just started.

No, I posted it a while ago in one of the threads, and all the Romney folks told me I was uptight. LOL. Some of us pointed out Laura’s hypocrisy... she rails against the View women, but then turns into one herself. UGH. I was so disappointed.

Matters little to me though, I have positioned myself to weather the storm one way or the other. I vote for what is right.

Just give me a choice and a right to vote. I can always decide who suits me better than the other.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a campaign so publicly considering termination that ever amounted to anything thereafter.

It’s not an ego trip. People are sending money they need for their own families. Staffers need a paycheck and they need some notice to get resumes out. They may have families too.

Jesse Jackson once had the same situation. Avid supporters who simply knew it was over because of just how much money big media costs and how individual contributions not professionally raised could not suffice. So Jackson manufactured a mantra for them on his way out the door: “Jesse made a difference”. That gave them something to celebrate in defeat.

Thompson had his shot. He has stayed dignified and professional and remaining so means he will withdraw and announce he will endorse the party’s eventual nominee.

Her listenership dropped just a little bit today.

Bingo. I'm going to drop my membership to get her podcasts. I'll probably listen when I'm at the computer, but I am sure not going to pay for it anymore. Pfffttt.

Hillary would do less damage than a RINO.

To all of you that wold like to celebrate Fred's possible demise be warned that this is FRed country.

Maybe so, but Fred was Fred's on worst enemy. He tried to run in absentia.

He showed up on Leno instead of a state debate. That turned allot of friends off.

After he did announce, he seemed to show up for a few events and then take a week or so off. That turned allot of friends off.

At the ABC/Gibson debate, he showed allot of fire. The very next night at the FoxNews/Wallace debate, both he and Giuliani, looked like their bodies were there, but their minds were somewhere else. They both looked like they were just phoning it in that night. That turned allot of friends off.

Someone posted in several different threads several weeks ago (and got skewered for it) that Fred was going to have to start acting like he wanted to win or people weren't going to support him for long. It appears that that is happening now. He is losing loyal supporters who are trying to figure out where to go now: McCain? Huckabee? Romney? the beach?

Yeah, Thompson is the guy who wiped the floor with Romney in South Carolina, even after Romney spent millions in the state.

That is not fair. Romney did not have South Carolina as a priority just as Fred did not have Michigan as a priority. Plus Fred/Romney teams do not bash one another. We need to start the campaign for Fred/Romney ticket in November.

I’ve always felt that Thompson’s role was to act as a spoiler and now that the conservatives are gone there’s no point of staying in the race.

I'd wondered what motivated your posts, and now I know... paranoia.
