On Friday January 20, Lars Larson interviewed Jim Harris about Huckabee's immigration plan. Lars started out by calling the plan that Huckabee posted on his website 'amnesty.'
Lars: Well when I've read his website the Nine Point Plan really does sound like amnesty. It says that people who are in this country illegally would be allowed to stay after satisfying a couple of minor conditions, which is not sending illegals home.
Jim: Well you know, I keep hearing that. One of those minor conditions is that you go back to where you are from and get in line behind everyone else thats already in line if you are going to come in here legally.
Lars goes on to claim that the plan can't work because the illegals have to self deport which couldn't possibly work. Jim explained that the Nine Point Plan calls for a crackdown on employers who hire illegals and would use a Social Security match system to verify legal status.
Later in the show, Lars went on to praise efforts in Arizona to match names with Social Security numbers to catch illegals. He said that the illegals were self deporting and that this strategy could work across the country.
When asked about why he thought that Huckabee's plan to use the Social Security administration to deny illegals employment in the US wouldn't work but then later said that it was working in Arizona, he responded, The crackdown Arizona is doing is called no match'. That is, employers are forbidden to hire someone whose name does not match a social security number. That is not the kind of crackdown the huckster proposes and the reason hes not proposing it is it works.
Huckabee's plan, which Lars said he read, does in fact call for a crackdown on employers who hire someone illegally. Step 4 in the Nine Point Plan specifically forbids employers from hiring illegals.
4. Enforce the Law on Employers Employment is the chief draw for most illegal immigrants and denying them jobs is the centerpiece of an attrition strategy.
Impose steep fines and penalties on employers that violate the law.
Institute a universal, mandatory citizenship verification system as part of the normal hiring process.
Prevent the IRS and the Social Security Administration from accepting fraudulent Social Security numbers or numbers that don't match the employees' names.
It is clear to me that Lars either never read the plan or he is flat out lying about it. It is also interesting that Lars has lavished praise on Romney for his tough stance against illegal immigration. I looked up Romney's plan and immediately noticed that there is no Social Security matching provision. Romney is guilty of the exact thing that Lars accused Huckabee of doing.
Either Lars is a fraud for not reading the plan while claiming he did or he is a lying hypocrite.
Huckabee has a tough road to hoe, with these types of misleading and false attacks constantly leveled at him.
Here is a link to the interview:
“Huckabee has a tough road to hoe, with these types of misleading and false attacks constantly leveled at him.”
Huckabee is a RINO hoe, who should hit the road.
What do you think about a talk show host clearly lying about Huckabee’s plan. Is that OK as long as they aren’t lying about your guy?
“What do you think about a talk show host clearly lying about Huckabees plan. Is that OK as long as they arent lying about your guy?”
My guy is Paul, they always lie about him.
Huckabee was an open-borders amnesty guy for years. SO to be honest, I think it’s Huckabee lying about his position.
Rep. Joyce Elliott, D-Little Rock, said she had already planned to file a bill granting instate status to the children of immigrants who live in Arkansas and have applied to state universities. “Its nice to know we will have an ally in the governors office.” (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette 1/12/05)
John Hawkins: Let me ask you about the hot issue of the day, illegal immigration. When it comes to illegal immigration, do you think we should allow illegal aliens currently in the country to become citizens or at least give them the opportunity to or the opportunity to stay as guest workers, or do you think they should have to leave the United States?
Mike Huckabee: Well, I’m not as sure that leaving and then coming back is as important as it is to acknowledge that what they’ve done is illegal, pay a fine, and then get in line behind the people that are going through the process of being here legally. It’s important that we have a legal process.
We can’t just ignore our laws. We either change them or enforce them for clearly this land is a land that is dependent on more workers than we currently have for many of the jobs that Americans honestly don’t want. So there is, I think, a reality that we shouldn’t just sort of look the other way. I don’t believe in amnesty. That’s not a good idea, but creating a pathway where people can have a form of restitution to make things right, to understand that laws have to be obeyed or some consequences have to be applied. That makes more sense than trying to deport 12 million people or build a 700 million, ehr...700 billion dollar fence (Hawkins Note: Most estimates of the cost of the fence are in the 2-5 billion dollar range), whatever it’s going to cost.
Good analysis. Thank you.
By the way, the "tough ROAD to hoe" comment brands you as a typical Huckabee supporter.
I go with what a man did and advocated when he had a chance to do something, such as the not insignificant position of a Governor of a US State.
In this regard, Huckabee FAILED abjectly on the issue of Immigration, and cannot be trusted. We are fools to believe in the positions papers ginned up in Little Rock a few months into the campaign when they realized out at the grassroots that they had an *Immigration Problem* on their hands.
This is insincere, a dollar short and a day late.
About one month in duration.
This is the classic definitely of charlatanism.
Lars Larsson?? Bit on the Far Side.
Here’s the deal:
Huck’s never been a true believer on the borders issue. He’s gone so far (within the last 24 months, mind you) as to label everyone that is a racist or a bigot. His current stance is just a bit of GHWB-style lip service for TV.
Huck’s political career is bought-and-paid-for by the Tyson Company. They want their illegal-labor gravy train to kept running. He’s not about to stab them in the back. If elected, he’ll do exactly what Bush did.
In order:
1) Pretend to do nothing
2) Stack the DOJ and DHS with pro-illegal activists
3) If called to task about his appointments, he’ll play the race-baiting game
4) He’ll give the activists marching orders to run-off anyone who actually tries to do something about securing the border.
5) If/when we martial our resources to try and stop it, he’ll produce another ‘comprehensive reform’ scare to shut us up.
Fool me once...
Well said sir.
Oh, and yes, Romney is just as much of a panderer on this issue. No, I don’t give him a pass on it either.
Exactly. The real beef here is that Huck’s past actions do not allow us the luxury of believing that he has suddenly converted. It’s not a lot better than Mitt’s flip-flop on abortion and both issues are extremely important today. How can we trust a politician who has turned 180 during the campaign? There’s absolutely no way to know if they are telling the truth until you put them in office and see. That just won’t cut it.
You forgot the fence that GWHB has been trying to get built for 6 years. But then, “somebody” fooled you.
And there are the weasel words used by pro-amnesty frauds -- "... change the laws ... ", then the illegals will no longer be illegal.
As for the "jobs that Americans honestly don't want", Americans did these jobs during our first 200 years. Americans and legal residents can't afford to do these jobs when half their pay is snatched for taxes -- the illegals aren't paying taxes.
I was referring to his ‘no new taxes’ pledge back in the day. Lip service at its’ best.
But one of the very last radio voices to fade awayoutragedafter 9/11. I'd call him a Patriot.
Mike Wallace had Huckabee stuttering, while he desperately tried to defend his “touch back” position as being somehow different from McCain’s “touch back” amnesty plan.
