It was Thompson that said South Carolina was his “line in the sand.” If he stays in after a dismal third place in a Southern State, and the above statement.....then he is motivated by ego not the best interests of the country.

All Thompson can do is play spoiler and make the fracturing of the GOP a reality. If he gets out now, there may be time to heal the damage done. Maybe, folks like you will get over your mania and eventually come back to reality. However, the longer Thompson drags it out, the more damage he does.

And with the other cast of characters running this is a bad thing how?

Your ignorance is showing. Reagan lost 11 primaries before he got elected.

If you were talking about Huckabee, you'd be exactly right. Fred Thompson may be fracturing Huckabee's support, but he's hardly fracturing the party.

Thompson's the only candidate who doesn't alienate a large part of the party. Huckabee cannot make the same claim.

Thompson hurts the party if he doesn't stay in!

Fred never said he was getting out if he didn't win S.C.
His line in the sand was to define conservatism with an explanation point, which is why he had significant gains there.

It is you who has abandoned reality. Fred is not the one fracturing the Republicans. It's all the RINOs and NONE of them can win the general election.

Some of the Huckabee evangelicals will stay home or vote democratic if Mitt, Rudy, McCain, or Paul is the nominee.

Some of the McCain defense faction will stay home or vote democratic if Mitt, Rudy, Huckabee, or Paul is the nominee.

Some of the Mitt illegal alien faction will stay home or vote democratic if Rudy, Huckabee, McCain, or Paul is the nominee.

Some of the Paul lower taxes & small government faction will stay home or vote democratic if Mitt, Rudy, McCain or Huckabee is the nominee.

If any of these RINOs are the nominee, then enough voters will stay at home to throw the election to the Democrats.  You may not be old enough to remember the Ross Perot debacle or the Bob Dole or Gerald Ford defeats, but I am.  Weak nominees result in disaster for the Republican party, period - end of story.

This statement is most bizarre. It claims that Fred Thompson, the most acceptable candidate to the party by every meaure including polling, is DIVISIVE? In fact Fred is the only thing that is standing in the way of a complete fracture of the party. If any candidates were to need to get out for the reasons you propose they would be the hopeless Huckster and the enfeebled McCain.

It was Thompson that said South Carolina was his “line in the sand.”

Fred's comments about the 'line in the sand' had to do with whether or not voters were going to draw the line at conservatism or move to a more moderate/liberal stance. Seems he was right to be concerned.

You're drinking the koolaid!

IMO, what you say fits everybody BUT Thompson!

McCain or Huckster? LOL!!! They're embarrassments!

When Fred drops out Romney will benefit the most.

play spoiler for who? Give me one guy that is a true conservative that’s worth voting for? At this point I may want another clintoon in office. At lease she can do what we as a party can’t...unite us. Just like BIll ushered in the Republican wave...the country and our party appears to need another wake up call.
