Mitt had a bad poll back in December when everybody was ganging up on him.

The votes already cast are largely going to be the votes of those committed to candidates, who weren’t going to change their votes anyway. Those who think they might change their votes won’t have voted yet, because they will be waiting longer to decide.

So the 30% number is meaningless.

Further, you have no idea how many people will end up voting, so you have no real idea whether 30% of those people have already voted. A good push by a candidate might convince 50,000 new people to come out and vote who weren’t going to vote.

However, I still don’t think Fred can do anything in Florida. I base that on his results in South Carolina. He’d have to completely re-tool his campaign to get a better result, and I think we can all agree Fred is not about changing his ways of doing things.

I daresay Fred could even run a great campaign by YouTube vids alone. Fred being Fred sells. Convinces. Teaches.

“Republican primaries are for REPUBLICANS,”

So far out of the primaries or caususes..which one of them holds to your statement? Which primary has been for Republicans?

Sadly, few of them. And when we see people who aren’t republicans voting in our primary, we always say we wish we could close our process so that only people committed to the party could vote in our nominating contests.

thats what the Republican party is doing...they are courting liberals and moderate liberals with their campaign promises.

I cannot imagine the Dems doing the same thing by making promises to conservatives to woo them over.

I agree. An open primary...so many things are wrong with it.
And why cant we? As a declared Republican I can only vote in the Republican primary. The only time I can cross vote is in the general election. It makes no sense to me to have non party affiliated people choosing my nominee for me.

It is up to us conservatives to make our voices heard. The Republican party has been taking our vote as for granted as the Democrats have been doing with African American voters. We need to get the point across that we may register Republican, but WE VOTE CONSERVATIVE. Fred is the only candidate that I could in good conscience vote for, and I will do whatever I can to keep in in the running.

It is still early in the primary races, and I am NOT going to let the media tell me who can and can’t win. We, the voters, determine who can and can’t win. If we stand united, he can win.

Yes they sure are. Like Rush says, 'they don't like the disapproval they get from the MSM when they act like conservatives, so they don't act like conservatives anymore.' After Reagan we got Bush I & Bush II, and neither carried the conservative mantle. Now our leaders are to come from the ranks of McCain, Voinovich and Christy Whitman. Nope, the GOP does not want conservatives in its ranks, except to vote as told and be quiet.

I am with you. Fred is who I will vote for and do everything I can to help his campaign. McCain and Huckabee will be out soon as now they face JUST registered Republicans here in Florida. This race in Florida will be between Fred, Mitt and Rudy. Fred has a good chance and after the debate Thursday things will look quite different. I believe Duncan Hunter will endorse Fred if he does endorse anyone. I still hope for a Thompson/Hunter ticket and have all along. In my opinion, Hunter was the other real conservative in the race. Now it is Fred we real conservatives need to unite behind. No more RINO’s for me! I stand with Fred all the way! GO FRED!

You’ve already voted in the primary, so why bail now? If Fred’s principles are important to you, it is too important to give up and quit.

There have been a lot of Dems and Independents voting in the Republican primaries in the states that have voted so far, MI and NH. Some said that happened in SC. So why should they be the ones to determine who your choice will be? Do you want to follow the leadership of Democrats and Independents?

Things would be different if there wasn’t that crossover voting. There are a lot of factors to take into consideration. Fred beat Romney in SC and Romney’s vote count in MI included Fred supporters who wanted to knock out McCain. It is hard to see at this point exactly who Republicans would pick if it were just Republicans making the choice. Please reconsider, it won’t have an immediate impact on anything for you unless you make donations to some other candidate.

So why not work to help Fred outlast Huckabee and solve the problem. Brother love will pass before Fred if Fred’s supporters show some loyalty. Assuming that Fred does not choose to withdraw.

Too late. Fred said So. Carolina his last stand. I believe him. I suspect all the Huckabee votes are those Fred counted on this past summer when he announced he'd run. I don't blame ya for hanging on but I think I'm reading the tea leaves. He should get out now. At this point he helps McCain.

“He’ll try to get his job back on “Law and Order”.

I hope that’s a possibility, but my understanding is his part has already been filled. People recruited him into this thinking that “Law & Order” guy would clobber Hillary in a debate. If all that’s accomplished is him losing his job, I think the man is owed an apology.

I don’t know who talked him into it, but it was all a big mistake.

I heard it was the Cheneys who persuaded this fine man to give up a good job and a year of his life for nothing.

But I doubt if Fred and his family will starve because of it.

You’re ridiculous.

In my state, Republican primaries are for anyone who wants to vote in them. It’s the LAW, something you appear to be very ignorant of.

We aren’t talking about legality here, we are talking the principle that we usually espouse here, that republican nominations should be chosen by republicans only.

In our state, it is legal for anybody to vote in either primary, but whereever possible we, the party, ask people to agree that they are actually republicans.

But that’s OK, because our strong principled stand that only republicans should be allowed to vote in republican elections obviously is trumped by the “Fred Thompson or Bust” rule.

As a member of the local republican committee, if I made the statement you made, I would resign the committee. But that’s because my membership and oaths I took mean something.

BTW, that also means that in the past I’ve “supported” candidates that weren’t my favorite choices. It’s what I promised to do as part of my membership.

If a miracle should happen and Fred Thompson wins the nomination, I would expect everybody who voted in a republican race to support his candidacy, or at least not to speak out against him. If all the other candidate’s supporters took YOUR position, none of our candidates would have a chance at winning the election.

BTW, it would never have even crossed my mind that you would actually break a LAW to vote in a republican primary. I’m sorry you thought I was saying otherwise.

You suggest that people who are not republicans voting in republican primaries are an issue for you, and look forward to contests where ONLY republicans are voting.

Josh, this is exactly what I am talking about. The rank and file of the party, including many of your guy’s supporters, are screaming for people who are NOT republicans to stay out of our nomination contest.

So when you say you are NOT a republican, and are ONLY here to support your candidate, you are no better than independents and liberals who are ONLY voting in our primary to support Ron Paul or John McCain, and have no intention of supporting our nominee otherwise.
