I wanted him to pick up some momentum with every good thing that has come out about Fred these past several weeks. I insisted he wasn't a stalking horse. I will never believe that he was. I think his run is over. I hope he does too. If he bows out, who will he endorse? Some will say his longtime friend and some say probable republican nominee McCain? I'm hoping it will be the guy who closest represents the conservatism I've admired in Fred Thompson. Not McCain, not the Huckster, and not Rudy. I hope its Romney that Fred Thompson endorses.
You mean there’s no difference between Hillobama and McCain on Iraq? On abortion? Still plenty of reason to care.

How does Mitt represent Fred’s conservatism?
I agree that you have some merit on the first half of that statement if Fred drops out. However, Romney will be just as bad for the Republican Party. He would get elected as a Conservative and as soon as he got to DC, back among the RINOs and Dims, he would flip back on everything he changed in order to compete.
Really tough for the party in the WH to win 3 elections running. Who has a better chance beating a Democrat Senator? Another Senator or someone NOT tied to the DC political machine?
Since 1976.
Carter ran as the populist outsider against DC. Carter Won.
1980. Reagan ran as an outsider going to DC to clean up the mess. Reagan won
1984. Old Machine politician and former Senator Mondale ran by the Democrats against Reagan. Reagan won.
1988. VP running on the Reagan legacy against a DC outsider barely won.
1992 DC outsider ran against sitting President. Outsider Clinton won.
1996 Old career Senator named Dole with a stellar war record ran against Sitting President. President Clinton won.
2000 DC outsider ran against sitting President's VP, outsider Bush won by a few hundred votes.
2004 Old career Senator named Kerry with a supposed stellar war record ran against sitting President. President won.
2008. The GOP Establishment plans to run an old tired worn out career Senator with a war record against the former 1st Lady or a 1 term Senator.
Based on that historic record just WHY should I hope McCain has any chance at all against Clinton Inc?

Wow, my first ever vanity post and it “takes the cake”. I am a seriously bummed out Fred fan. I also just found out that Thompson will go to FL. If Thompson couldn’t show good in SC he cant show good in FL. As a con I know its time to decide which man left standing can take the whitehouse. McCain, Huckabee, Giuliani, or Romney. I pick Romney.
He will endorse McCain, and the majority of FReepers will say nothing.
Bill Sammon was on Fox this afternoon suggesting an endorsement of McCain was coming from Thompson if he drops out.
We’ll see what develops but I will vote against McCain and would urge people to vote for anyone other than McCain in a way that McCain loses.
Examples would be voting Romney in Colorado, Utah and Massachusetts on February 5th.
Voting for Huckabee in Oklahoma and Arkansas on February 5th.
Voting for Giuliani in New York and New Jersey on February 5th.
Fred is not going to endorse anyone. Not dropping out either.
Might mention also that Duncan Hunter didn’t endorse anyone when he dropped out. Not that I know of.
Things being tight, there’s no reason not to hang around collecting what delegates you can until the convention, then play kingmaker. That’s assuming the money doesn’t dry up completely and make it impossible.
Hunter said earlier this evening that he is going to wait awhile before endorsing because he hasn’t thought it through. If Fred drops out, I hope he does the same and they come back and endorse the same guy.
Fred Thompson isn’t leaving.
But now that we’re out of the states where independents run the show, we’ll be coming to the states where Republicans finally have the say in the Republican primary.
Of course the most important thing to happen today is that scumbag *uckabee lost. The bottom line is *uckabee is the only Republican other than Ron Paul that I wouldn’t vote for in November. So this is a huge victory for all of us who don’t pull over for a picnic whenever we see some roadkill.
As for people claiming he’s in it to help McCain, well if he is then he’s certainly not leaving, because that wouldn’t help McCain much, would it?
Anyone who thinks that Fred is in the race just to help McCain, the best thing they could do is vote for Fred instead of split the conservative vote so he beats McCain.
I mean, if you guys are right, then wouldn’t that be awkward for them?
Every candidate who has won the nomination as also won NV. I guess a record is going to get broke.
