SC is an open primary but you can only vote in one or the other.

There is no such thing as registering with a political party to vote in SC.

If the Dems vote today, they can’t vote next week.

The primaries are open, but an individual can only vote in one. Since there is a contest on the other side there won’t be many crossover votes like the last two elections where the democrat’s candidate was already known.
