How do things change if it’s Romney vs Obama?

I think Hillary will win because the Dem frontrunner always wins. The Clintons are too entrenched in the machine to lose to an upstart. Crazy as it sounds, Obama would be more likely to win some of the South in a general over Romney than Hillary would. Not a given but more possible. Large black population fired up to vote and black gentleman trumps shrew. Might even trump Mormon.

Your Full Disclosure applies to me and my family perfectly. I don’t believe a word I’m hearing about McCain tonight. The numbers tell a different story. Megyn Kelly just said McCain was put over the top by 39% of independents, and Fred Thompson sucking off evangelical votes from Huckabee. McCain can’t win without liberals unless conservatives believe this “electability” hype and switch to McCain. Why on earth would anyone planning on voting Romney or Thompson switch to McCain? We’re letting the Democrats pick our candidates now?

That’s not going to happen here in the west. The independents are too liberal and the primaries are closed. McCain is despised on immigration out here. He’s standing up there with Lindsay Graham, rubbing our noses in it. I’m beginning to loathe him.

I think he means polished and educated and successful. Somewhere along the line, many social conservatives decided a President needs to be a plain-talkin' hick who thinks science and intellectualism is just the devil's bidness...

Uh, no. Try reading my post above. Elite means "an insider, a member of the political class from his youth."

And the "hick" comment puts you rare company. Some of the finest people I know are "hicks".

Romney won in at least two states with the majority of evangelicals....your point is absurd.

Hucklebee are sharing votes.

Huck will go right back to his old positions on immigration in the general. It will be to easy to call him a racist if he pushes the issue, and Obama or Hillary will. He has not run on an anti-immigration platform anyway, just pandered to SC lately IMHO.

Romney and Thompson combined wouldn't have beaten McCain....dammit.

“Really? He made of the entire convention a dessert?

That’s a lot of whipping creme and Maraschino cherries!”

It’s amazing you never see that particular super-weapon in comics and movies. What a delicious way to inflict mass carnage.

Those that have spend their life blood helping the left trash Romney may well have to start backing McCain....how ironic!

Actually, everybody believes it, including most likely most of the people who claim they think it was true.

I think Romney being Mormon kills him in the general.

I think his Mormonism will hurt him, but not kill him. If his campaign continues to put his solid family life front and center and play to the Hillary haters, I believe many people will warm up to Mitt. He'll also give it as good as he gets it when the Clintons pull their usual dirty-tricks and shenanigans.

Unfortunately, what you said about Goldwater is true. Although thats the first I’ve heard about the Secular Funeral.

If Fred drops out, it looks like we are going with Romney.

Not in the South. He won't win any primaries here unless it comes down to he and McCain and even then it will be close. In the general he would beat Hillary but I'm not sure Obama JMHO

It was not socialized medicine. It was private insurance.

Right. Private insurance. That the state coerces you to have under pain of punishment under the law. And those folks who chose not to have insurance and pay the fine, where do they go to get treated?

Of course you realize that this is just another stop on the express to full state-sponsored socialized medicine.

I agree completely. Rudy would waterboard where necesary and basically scare the pants off the terrorists, McCain wants them to have lawyers. McCain’s judges would be selected by Schumer and Spector.

Actually Romney prevented the state from having a single payer plan, run by the state. You really need to be more informed.

People will go D in 2008, as they did in 1976 regardless of the nominees because they think of GWB like Ford.
