Rohrabacher, Hunter call for agents' pardon
Wash Times ^ | 1/17/08 | Jerry Seper

Two California Republican congressmen yesterday called on President Bush to pardon two former U.S. Border patrol agents sent to prison a year ago this week for shooting a drug-smuggling suspect in the buttocks as he fled back into Mexico.

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher accused Mr. Bush of being "arrogant and heartless" for refusing to pardon or commute the sentences of former agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean, who were ordered last January to serve 11- and 12-year prison sentences, respectively.

He said they had spent the past year in solitary confinement "suffering conditions worse than detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

"It has been a year since Border Agents Ramos and Compean entered prison," Mr. Rohrabacher said. "This marks a year of shame for President Bush, who has been fully aware of the details of this blatant miscarriage of justice and chosen to do absolutely nothing about it.

"The president has shown us his arrogant and heartless side by permitting the wrongful incarceration of Ramos and Compean to continue," he said.

Rep. Duncan Hunter, a Republican presidential candidate who in- troduced a still-pending bill last year to pardon the agents, said Congress and the American people have "repeatedly expressed their outrage that such an injustice has been allowed to occur."

"These agents were convicted solely on the testimony of the drug dealer, who has since been indicted on federal drug charges for running drugs into the United States while serving as a federal witness," Mr. Hunter said. "Most disturbingly, he did so with border crossing cards he obtained for his cooperation."

Everything Sutton said in such detail seemed to be a point that he was trying to make without evidence. He was not there. Only Compean and Aldrete know what transpired, and Sutton chose to believe the drug smuggler.

bttt!

One more thing, don’t even think about going after me. This thread along with your ABOUT PAGE is being sent to my litigation attorney who will be getting off a nice note to your law firm.

You're freaking nutty.

Well, you haven’t been on as long or as involved in FR as I have. There are “freaking nutty” attorneys on and off this website who abuse their profession to harass and intimidate others. I’ve had private investigators sitting outside my house for days at a time. A very good friend of mine and well known FReeper has been in a protracted lawsuit with one of these nuts for a couple years now over postings on this website.

Taking a few contemporaneous preventative measures goes a long way toward defanging the snake and this guys “about page”’ would be pretty hard to defend anywhere.

I caught a lot of hell in this particular forum over the summer on this one.

So did I. The refusal of so many Freepers to objectively evaluate the facts of the case shocked me. It seems that many rank-and-file conservatives are just as driven by emotion as are liberals. Very sad.

BTW - This guy has already adjusted his About Page and removed some material that may be offensive to his ex wife or her attorneys.

Don't matter, I screen saved the whole thing. I really don't care but I got it if someone tried to deny it was there.

I know some think this is looney but only because they have never been the target of an attack. I learned early on at FR to protect yourself up front from loose cannons.

I’m sorry, but regardless of who does it, turning a freaking FR spat into real-life action is stupid. Do you really think this dude’s law firm is going to discipline him because someone on an Internet chat site who disagrees on a case that 85% of Americans don’t even know about sent them a page with *gasp* boobs on it? I’m sorry, this whole thing is beyond retarded.

Same here, not just at FR but other websites as well.

Of course they wouldn't discipline him (he's a partner) that wasn't my intention and I have no desire to make trouble for him. However, they might advise him to leave it alone if he thought I was over the line and wanted to make me feel some pain. It's happened before and to many more FReepers than you might think.

From the looks of it he is a pretty staunch conservative and does good work but that About Page, to me at least, was kind of weird and obsessive. It's one thing to be happy about a divorce and ones new found freedom (not to mention the incessant name dropping)but to barf it all over your ABOUT PAGE, on FR no less, tells me this is a person who has serious self image issues and may not take well to any criticism.

I've seen it before, remember BATMAN JACK? He was from FL as well...maybe there is something in the water.

Ya you’re right, I missed when I went back to check. As far is it being a joke, it’s a joke when you say it to your buddies over a beer or a poker game. When you plaster it on an “About Page” on a site this big, you’re wearing it as a badge of honor.

I also detest hypocrites and when this guy talks about being a Christian then makes those comments on a public bulletin board about his ex wife and new trophy girlfriends, including posting pics and calling womens breasts “flotation devices”, I have to wonder.
