Rohrabacher, Hunter call for agents' pardon
Wash Times ^ | 1/17/08 | Jerry Seper

Posted on 01/17/2008 11:37:31 PM PST by pissant

Two California Republican congressmen yesterday called on President Bush to pardon two former U.S. Border patrol agents sent to prison a year ago this week for shooting a drug-smuggling suspect in the buttocks as he fled back into Mexico.

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher accused Mr. Bush of being "arrogant and heartless" for refusing to pardon or commute the sentences of former agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean, who were ordered last January to serve 11- and 12-year prison sentences, respectively.

He said they had spent the past year in solitary confinement "suffering conditions worse than detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

"It has been a year since Border Agents Ramos and Compean entered prison," Mr. Rohrabacher said. "This marks a year of shame for President Bush, who has been fully aware of the details of this blatant miscarriage of justice and chosen to do absolutely nothing about it.

"The president has shown us his arrogant and heartless side by permitting the wrongful incarceration of Ramos and Compean to continue," he said.

Rep. Duncan Hunter, a Republican presidential candidate who in- troduced a still-pending bill last year to pardon the agents, said Congress and the American people have "repeatedly expressed their outrage that such an injustice has been allowed to occur."

"These agents were convicted solely on the testimony of the drug dealer, who has since been indicted on federal drug charges for running drugs into the United States while serving as a federal witness," Mr. Hunter said. "Most disturbingly, he did so with border crossing cards he obtained for his cooperation."

Yup. We are endowed of a variety of goodies by the Creator in His universe not the man made construct called the US. To believe otherwise is highly arrogant of you. Taking your bizarre formulation to its logical conclusion would mean that all man made laws were spurious and evil.

The founders were talking about all of God’s creatures only after they become legal residents.

A few months ago Hunter went to the White House and hand delivered the request and statement from congress re. the Border Patrolmen to the President.

Hunter has been on the border issues for over 27 years.
This is not new to him.

BTW Calling an Army Ranger Viet nam War vet chicken Shiite tells all we want to know about you.

I suppose his Marine Capt. son - three tours in the current war is one also in your book.

Hey Bob...I don’t need to (nor can I) when I have folks like Justice Alito who can do it for me.

Contrary to the “brilliant” Ms Kanof and Mr Sutton, Justice Alito has it right.

During his nomination hearings Alito expressed his strong opinion that illegal aliens do not automatically acquire “constitutional right” while on the U.S. soil.

Yet another insult.

Just got an email from the SC GOP wanting me to take a survey.

The problem with their pres survey is they don’t even list Duncan Hunter. I’ve been patient, this was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Perhaps you would like to let them know what you think. I did. news@shotpolitics.com

“We are conducting a confidential online survey about tomorrow’s 2008 South Carolina Presidential Primary! We value your privacy and assure that all personal information will be kept confidential and used for informational purposes only. We will publish the results of our survey tomorrow afternoon.

Taking this survey is quick and easy. We appreciate your time and thank you for the feedback! Please click the link below to start the survey.”

PS!

I just got this message back. What a bunch of pussies.

AuntB – we didn’t put him on the survey because he is not getting 1% in public polls.

We do agree with you however that Duncan Hunter is a great candidate and a strong conservative. It’s a shame that his campaign never took off, yet you have people like Ron Paul raising $6 million a day. It drives us crazy.

That’s OK. Real Clear Politics does not list Hunter, even when he was getting 4% in the CNN polls.

Rotten bastards.

“Do you still want to claim he shot himself?”

I said *could*.

Own a handgun, Bob? If so, stick it in the rear of your waistband. Take off running on uneven ground pretending it's for your life. Try removing the gun from your waistband as you're stumbling and falling. (I'm sitting, doing this with my Glock right this second) (my Glock has no safety) Tell that there's NO possibility to create that very wound. Tell me there's evidence to support the bullet's owner.

From all indications, this sentence will be overturned at appeal. Perhaps then we won’t have to have these silly discussions over the details which don’t matter. What matters is Johnny Sutton charged these agents under a law he knew full well was not intended for and he had never charged any other LEO with.

Oaky, if he accidentally shot himself while pulling the gun from his rear waist band it would have created a downward trajectory and could not end up in his right thigh. There is no way he could have shot himself creating the trajectory the real bullet traveled.

Happy?

This is SO funny since at trial Ramos’s attorney stipulated that Ramos shot the guy and it was his bullet they removed from his thigh!

You got R&C supporters calling Ramos a liar!

“During his nomination hearings Alito expressed his strong opinion that illegal aliens do not automatically acquire “constitutional right” while on the U.S. soil.”

I’m pretty sure Alito will uphold the right of anyone to not be summarily executed by the state without due process.

Boy, FR gets weirder and weirder all the time.

“From all indications, this sentence will be overturned at appeal.”

The 10 year mandatory maybe, but what about the assault, obstruction of justice and destruction of evidence charges?

Does reintepreting the 10 year mand as it relatesd to LEO’s make them innocent of all other charges?

You never said if you owned a handgun, Bob.

I’m telling you there’s every possibility he shot himself.

Ramos only thought he shot the perp. He never saw the wound.

You’re relying on evidence from a *cooked* trial.
