NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico (Reuters) - At a Catholic-run shelter just across the border from Laredo, Texas, dozens of Latin American migrants say grace and tuck into a hearty meal of sausages, beans and rice, before trying to swim across the Rio Grande into the United States.
Weary migrants on their journey north often recharge their batteries at a network of similar shelters run by the Roman Catholic Church -- a lifeline sanctioned by the Vatican, despite increased U.S. efforts to keep out illegal immigrants.
"Migration is a human right and migrants are some of the world's most vulnerable people. It is the church's obligation to help them," said the Rev. Francisco Pellizzari, an Italian-Argentine missionary who runs the Nazareth migrant shelter in Nuevo Laredo.

Sorry, but with this the RCC announces that it is an enemy of the United States.
Have you ever seen any Priests, Bishops, or the Pope condemning the illegal migration Mexicans and Central Americans? When I lived in an Opus Dei house years ago, the five priests that lived in the adjacent rectory were all gaga about the Mexicans/Central Americans "reinvigorating" the Church.
Of course, I have no use for hucksters of the cloth, whether they call themselves Priests, Ministers, Rabbis, or Imams.

I can understand feeding the hungry. If we had a border though and kept them out, this wouldn’t be an issue. Churches could still minister in Mexico.
I simply cannot wait to hear the Catholic Republic wing of Free Republic defend this slap in the face to our country.
The RCC should be held responsible as aiding and abetting these lawbreakers. They should also be held as the sponsors of those already here and should be financially responsible for the welfare of the illegals instead of charging that to us non-Catholic taxpayers.

One out of every five Americans, myself included, is Catholic. If Catholics wanted illegals to get amnesty there wouldn't be a thing you or anyone else could do about it. The massive outrage over amnesty bills and the backpedaling by politicians seems to refute your position that this is some sort of RCC policy. If it was you'd be speaking Spanish now.
Since so many Americans are Catholics the mere numbers alone will guarantee that there will be some who behave like the people in the article. Don't try and paint everyone with the same brush.

I’m a staunch defender of the Catholic FAITH, but I can’t and won’t defend the activities of SOME of those who operate under its ancient auspices.
This would include the queer priests and nuns who sadly reach to very high levels in the Catholic heirarchy, as well as those fomenting socialism and openly anti-American activities such as those described here.

Pope decries world with luxury for few and poverty for many
VATICAN CITY (AP) - Pope Benedict XVI on Sunday criticized a world with luxury for a few and poverty for many and called for moderate lifestyles to ensure fair distribution of wealth amid a scramble for natural resources.
“One cannot say that globalization is synonymous with world order _ it’s the opposite,’’ Benedict said in his homily in St. Peter’s Basilica to mark the Catholic feast day of the Epiphany.
“The conflicts for economic supremacy, and the scramble for energy and water resources and raw materials render difficult the work of all those who strive to construct a more just and united world,’’ Benedict said.
“We need a greater hope, which allows us to prefer the common good of all to the luxury of few and the poverty of many,’’ the pontiff said.
“If true hope is lacking, you search for happiness in intoxication, in the superfluous, in excess, and you ruin yourself and the world,’’ he said. “Moderation is not only an ascetic rule, but also a way of salvation for humanity.’’
“By now it is obvious that only by adopting a sober lifestyle, accompanied by a serious commitment to a fair distribution of wealth, will it be possible to install a just and sustainable model of development,’’ Benedict said.
