I’m sure the NYT would love nothing more than if we nominated Fred Thompson. He was good tonight, but he has no chance in the general.

He just might have a chance if people like you would shut up and think. It’s a long way off and no one has it in the bag as yet. The media is not one to listen too. They think Romney has had it and he leads in delegates at this point. Give me a break.

I think Fred’s the only one up there (maybe Rudy too?) who could stand his ground against the Dem without breaking a sweat. Oh yes, with Fred as our nominee, WE WIN.

Fred is the only CONSERVATIVE who can win crossover and independent votes (against Hillary and Obama, who have lots of negative baggage even for some Dems and many independents). Believe me, Fred Thompson will be our next President if we can only nominate him.

In the marketplace of ideas, conservatism wins every time it’s tried (Rush, you’ve read from my cue cards before so I am stealing from yours!). Against Barack or Mrs. Clinton in a debate, I think Ol’ Fred would just say “BRING IT.”

"He was good tonight, but he has no chance in the general. "

I think Fred would stomp Hillary. He's likable and she isn't.

It’s when people like you say that over and over it comes out that way. Enough of the negative on Fred. People said that for a year about Duncan Hunter and that is when Rudy was leading all polls by 30%. Can you imagine if we didn’t bad mouth his campaign and people actually supported him and gave funds?

We wouldn’t be worried about a guy named Huckabee and McCain would be back home in AZ.

That reminds me of comments about Reagan. IMHO, Thompson is the only one who can appeal to the religious right supporters of Huckabee, small 'l' libertarian supporters of Dr. Paul's domestic policies, keep the rest of our base and appeal to the independents and donkeys who are incensed against giving illegal aliens driver's licences.

Yeah, like Mitt has any chance in the general election. He wouldn’t even be able to carry his home state.

Fred did very well tonight. You may very well be the one who won't make it to the next round ...

Fred can appeal to the younger generation on the issue of spending, intergenerational debt and getting some control over social security so that their futures are not so burdened. He can get the soccer moms on his experience with national security and returning control over education to local levels. He can appeal to the small business person and the western libertarians by emphasizing federalism as a return to limited government and local control to reflect local values. He can appeal to a large number of Americans on his immigration stand - strong border security and and removing the incentives that draw illegals here. He can emphasize tax cuts for the middle class. He would appoint conservative judges. He has a consistent pro-life voting record. The list goes on and on as to how conservative principles can win over the socialist candidates.

He does need to work on his economic policy to help make us more competitive in the international market.

Hard to say at this point. Just who on the Republican side do YOU think has a chance in the general election?

Who does have a chance in the general election? Reagan spoke the same way and he had a chance. Tell me how you feel about Reagan?

That may be true, but I will not vote for John McCain under any circumstance.
In a primary or for President.
And I suspect a lot of conservatives feel the same way.
