COLUMBIA, S.C. - Excitement surrounding presidential politics in South Carolina continues to grow as South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson today announced that invitations have been extended to and accepted by six Republican presidential candidates to participate in the 2008 South Republican Party Presidential Candidates Debate in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

"The stakes couldn't be higher this election, and we couldn't be more excited to extend a warm South Carolina welcome to six White House hopefuls who are seeking the Republican nomination to be the next President of the United States," said Dawson. "These candidates join tens of thousands of Republicans from across the country and hundreds of journalists from around the world who are converging on Myrtle Beach for this debate because they know the 2008 election could be decided on our stage that night."

The following candidates will be receiving formal invitations from the South Carolina Republican Party to the 2008 South Carolina Republican Party Presidential Candidates Debate (in alphabetical order):

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani - New York City

Former Governor Mike Huckabee - Arkansas

U.S. Senator John McCain - Arizona

U.S. Congressman Ron Paul - Texas

Former Governor Mitt Romney - Massachusetts

Former U.S. Senator Fred Thompson - Tennessee

Candidates who received invitations to participate in the debate have announced formal campaigns for president; filed the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission and the South Carolina Republican Party to run for president; paid all candidate filing fees associated with their candidacy; met all U. S. constitutional requirements; and garnered at least 5% of the national electorate as determined by an average of the most recent national telephone polls of registered voters conducted by non-partisan public opinion polling organizations leading up to the registration deadline as determined by the South Carolina Republican Party and FOX News Channel; or, place in the top five in the New Hampshire Republican Presidential Primary on January 8, 2008.

The 2008 South Republican Party Presidential Candidates Debate will be televised live by FOX News Channel at 9:00 PM from the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Thursday, January 10, 2008. FOX News Channel Washington Managing Editor Brit Hume will moderate the debate while FOX News anchor Chris Wallace and White House Correspondent Wendell Goler will ask questions of the candidates.

FOX News Radio (FNR) will also provide listeners with live debate coverage beginning at 9 PM/ET. FNR’s Mike Majchrowitz will anchor the debate live from inside the hall. Following the debate, Majchrowitz and FNR Political Analyst and Washington Post columnist Jeff Birnbaum will provide post-debate analysis. They will be joined by FOX News Radio Correspondent Todd Starnes and several special guests live from “Spin Alley”.

You got it wrong. Hunter did skip Iowa, to campaign in NH, WY (came in 3rd), and NV.

He is campaigning hard. He just does not get MSM or conservative media coverage.

Duncan Hunter is out there doing HIS job every day for you. He’s not campaigning like the others because he CARES and he’s responsible and all the good things NONE of the others are.

But that doesn’t matter, does it? The media will pick the candidates, they already have and people like you just make their deception all the easier. You will get the president you deserve.

RNC hasn’t gotten a dime from us since amnesty. We only donate to Hunter & the NRA.

We’ll never give RNC another penny, even if they straighten up, which is very unlikely.

Corporate dictatorship.

Not just that, Lauren, but China, and not wanting ALL our companies over there instead of here providing jobs, especially military manufacturing. Even some freepers will say fair trade=protectionism. Those two issues are why they are blackballing Hunter. And it’s wrong. It isn’t their place to say who is or is not nominated, that goes for any media AND the RNC.

Less illegals means less cheap labor...means less profit margins for those that employ them....means less campaign contributions to the RNC.

it's depressing to think you may be right. I will NEVER ever again give a penny to the RNC. The leadership of the RNC pays lip service to the Constitution.

get real....

Duncan Hunter is a great man and conservative but in the overall scheme of things he is merely a congressman from California with practically no national name recognition and an absymal showing in the three primaries to date.

He needs to oust one of the senators or the governor before running again. Could he do that? No. How can he be considered for President if he couldn’t carry California?

I support Hunter and do not care much, one way or another, where FOX stands. I'm just interested in how you can read... "The following candidates will be receiving formal invitations from the South Carolina Republican Party to the 2008 South Carolina Republican Party Presidential Candidates Debate (in alphabetical order):"

and get, Fox strikes again.

And, what does FOX News have to do with...

"Candidates who received invitations to participate in the debate have announced formal campaigns for president; filed the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission and the South Carolina Republican Party to run for president; paid all candidate filing fees associated with their candidacy; met all U. S. constitutional requirements; and garnered at least 5% of the national electorate as determined by an average of the most recent national telephone polls of registered voters..."?

Good point. We should be burning the phone lines at the SC GOP headquarters and the RNC.

You will get the president you deserve.

Bravo AuntB. I would add to that, if they do get that they deserve, I don't even want to hear a peep of moaning a groaning and complaining when their President does things they don't like, or doesn't do what they want him to. We told them so. After all, that President is likely to be from the far left.

He came in third in WY. And he was within 6 votes of winning the largest SC straw poll. AND he paid his $25K to be on the ballot. And he has been endorsed by the Missouri and Nevada republican Assemblies. Hardly a fringer.

Ron Paul has more traction than Hunter?

Exactly...they're keeping Hunter out because he has no shot at winning? But Ron Paul does?

Fred needs to crank it up a notch in the SC debates.,

Fred needs to be tough with Huck and McCain. I know he and McCain are friends, but politics is a bloodsport and you must be willing to take the fight to all your opponents. McCain needs to be taken down in S.C.

My household is the same. And since the AMA and the American Cancer Society has gone left, putting donations into global warming, we can no longer give to them either.

I will add two other groups we do donate to, Veterans organization, and the Boy Scouts.
