To the Members of the Log Cabin Club (Romney's Smoking Gay Gun)
MR.org ^ | 6 Oct 94 | Mitt Romney

Posted on 01/07/2008 10:57:48 AM PST by xzins

To the Members of the Log Cabin Club of Massachusetts:

I am writing to thank the Log Cabin Club of Massachusetts for the advice and support you have given to me during my campaign for the U.S. Senate and to seek the Club’s formal endorsement of my election. The Log Cabin Club has played a vital role in reinvigorating the Republican Party in Massachusetts and your endorsement is important to me because it will provide further confirmation that my campaign and approach to government is consistent with the values and vision of government we share.

I am pleased to have had an opportunity to talk with you and to meet many of you personally during your September meeting. I learned a great deal from those discussions and the many thoughtful questions you posed. As a result of our discussions and other interactions with gay and lesbian voters across the state, I am more convinced than ever before that as we seek to establish full equality for Americas gay and lesbian citizens, I will provide more effective leadership than my opponent.

I am not unaware of my opponent’s considerable record in the area of civil rights, or the commitment of Massachusetts voters to the principle of equality for all Americans. For some voters it might be enough for me to simply match my opponent’s record in this area. But I believe we can and must do better. If we are to achieve the goals we share, we must make equality for gays and lesbians a mainstream concern. My opponent cannot do this. I can and will.

We have discussed a number of important issues such as the Federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which I have agreed to co-sponsor, and if possible broaden to include housing and credit, and the bill to create a federal panel to find ways to reduce gay and lesbian youth suicide, which I also support. One issue I want to clarify concerns President Clinton’s “don’t ask, don’t tell, don’t pursue” military policy. I believe that the Clinton compromise was a step in the right direction. I am also convinced that it is the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly in our nation’s military. That goal will only be reached when preventing discrimination against gays and lesbians is a mainstream concern, which is a goal we share.

As we begin the final phase of this campaign, I need your support more than ever. By working together, we will achieve the goals we share for Massachusetts and our Nation.

Sincerely,

W. Mitt Romney

KH: “Romney is the only major Republican candidate supporting a Federal Marriage Amendment.”

FALSE. National frontrunner and Iowa winner Mike Huckabee supports a federal amendment and helped lead the campaign to pass a marriage amendment to his state constitution.

Romney as a candidate for gov in 2002 OPPOSED a marriage amendment for his state’s constitution.

Then, sticking his finger in the air, flip-flopped on the issue. Which leaves neither side trusting him.

Depending on the wording of a “no new tax pledge” it would be contrary to one’s sworn duty to defend the USA.

In the case of all out war, taxes would have to be raised.

If there is no provision for that in the document, it would be honest NOT to sign it, and either dishonest or inexperienced to sign it.

He mentions a "number of steps" they will take to bring about open gay service in our military.

This man should not be put in charge of our military.

I'm trying to figure how the 82d would have been with open homosexuals when I served.

Glad I never got to see that.

Where there's a shell, there's a way.

25 years ago, we had Ronald Reagan, Johnny Cash, and Bob Hope.
Today we have Obama, no cash, and no hope!

If you can't appreciate the pure beauty of the violin after hearing this, something's wrong with your ears.

Or you can get raw with these strings.

How about this gamechanger from America's Got Talent (which they SHOULD have won).

And finally, this, dedicated to the one and only rdb2, whose eyes are growing dim.

Either way, the violin is sweet yet LETHAL.

Do it!

Thank you for digging up this old thread and reminding us that Mitt Romney supported gays serving openly in the military.

We need to remember such things.

I would believe that this would mean quotas. Gay quotas.

Gosh, that would mean that a helluva lot of gays would lose their jobs in couture, theater, advertising, photography, journalism, and girls' physical education, wouldn't it?

Well, wouldn't it? ..... no? Whaaaaat? <theatrical puzzlement>

Well, what exactly does it mean, then?

Ping to this old "reminder" thread for a quick refresher on what Romney was up to, in 2008 and before that in 1994.

Guy's as reliable as a wet noodle as to his word on what he'll support ....... and as PFLAGgy as they come.

One of the many reasons - and a huge one - why Romney is absolutely a vile candidate and it will be an incredible disaster if somehow or other he is crammed down our gullets. If he is crammed, he will lose. He's really not very different from 0h0m0 - who said that "he and Michelle" will be the "best friends gays ever had" in the WH. Romney is no different in this regard.

you honestly cannot believe any of what you just wrote can you?

Romney is for the homosexual agenda, this is his letter.

The man states one thing and then changes his position based oan who he is talking to and only the dopes on out party would think Romney is capable of telling the truth

what astounds me so that we have so many dopes on our side voting for him and then even a couple come on here trying to say Romney is not pro homo agenda.

I was just researching this topic and found this old posting.

Have you heard anything new from Romney on DADT lately?

Based upon what I have found out, Romney has been a supporter and promoter of homosexuslizing the military from way back. As such, any claims by him stating that he has simply chosen to accept the recent repeal as the "law of the land" are actually just more progressive supporting lies.

Unless Romney has stated nothing new, whether it be a flip or a flop, I guess the best bet is to assume Romney will not lead any attempt to repeal the homosexualization of our military.

Romney has been solidly behind the gay movement for years. He will not reverse the decision to allow open gays to be part of our military.

I can’t recall exactly where, but I believe he was even asked the question. Wasn’t it in one of the debates?

Well, this debacle is certainly separating the wheat from the chaff. The principled conservatives from the lockstep Republicans.
